1st speeding ticket in the TL
Well gang, I just got my first ticket in the TL tonight. Got busted doing 79 in a 65 coming back from my parent's house in Killeen. What's interesting about the ticket is that the DPS officer was very courteous the entire time. A whole new experience for me for I'm always subjected to the 20 question harrasment from cops whenever I get stopped in my civic. Now I gotta take defensive driving and pay $104 to Williamson county.
I'll be shopping for a radar detector in the next few days!

Like everyone else, I have my philosophies about tickets/cops looking for speeders/license checks/etc...they run contrary to some, in line with others...but I'm with flatfoot, there's really no point in getting into it.
However, I do find the title of this thread to be rather amusing ("1st speeding ticket in the TL")...phrased like you plan on getting some more...

I'm not jinxing myself in this post....
My friend did a bunch of research on radar detectors, and he found one made by "Bell" that works almost as effectively as the much more expensive models - and has saved me countless times!!!! It was under $80. Nothing fancy.
It's good for people not accustomed to the TL's smooth cruising at highway speeds to be well equipped, until you realize how easy it is to exceed speed limts greatly!

First, sounds like a bunch of piddly that you are saying. When the officer stopped you and got you license and registration, and possibly insurance card, he would see who the vehicle belongs to. So pumping you for this information orally sounds like a bunch of made up stuff.
Second, in case you havent noticed, most officers in this country are fairly young. 90 percent of officers are under 40 years old, with about half I would say less then thirty years old, or just about your age. So stop with the young nonsense. You are 27 years old and an adult. Most officers are retired by the time they reach 40 to 45 years old. Its not a job, that is long lasting do to the demands on the body. So get over it. You are an adult, still thinking he is a kid. Your not.
So , I hear a lot of nonsense. Explain why it was important to go 92 miles an hour to the emergency room?

yea..what does the radar jammer do? I've heard people say that it's illegal and whatnot.
My bro got pulled over one time and the officer saw the radar detector and asked him why he had it. Honestly..I think that officers are more proned to giving a person a ticket if he has a radar detector or device like that because it tells them that they are more likely to speed..
Luckily my bro was able to get off with a warning on the speeding and no front license plate..btw this is in an RSX.

Officer: does your cruise control work
Me: yes officer I think it works fine
Officer: why don't u use it, do u know how fast u were going
Me: no officer I have no idea how fast I was going. I have an emergency @ the hospital and I told him my story
Officer: I don't care about you emergency, is this your car. Yes officer its my car.. Are u sure its yur car..
Me: yes officer I'm sure its my car. My information is in the trunk, do u mind if I get it
Officer: yeah get it, I'm gonna need it for the ticket.
And why the emergency? I am a dentist. I got a pgone call from one of my patients on a beautiful saturday morning telling me that her 9 year old took a set of handle bars to the face and knocked out 2 of his front teeth. I was hurrying to the hospital bc you only have 30 mins to reimplant the tooth, after that, the prognosis is very poor.. I would have done the same for anybody...... P.S. Little bit of topic, if anybody has their teeth knocked out or their kids. Don't touch the tooth too much. Put it in milk, spit, or the best thing Hanks Balanced Salt Solution....
My partner who is much older than me has been in the exact same situation and he has gotten out of it., in fact the officer both times led him to the hospital .. The officer that pulled me over was a total dick

[QUOTE=drdamian]Flatfoot, I understand exactly what you are saying... But this is how the convo went with an officer that was in his late 50's to mid 60's I think he was highway patrol
With all due respect, if you are a DDS, or dental surgeon. Your original post, for an educated person, sounds more like a teenagers, wah wah rant.
And if you acted that way, when the officer stopped you, that might have been your problem. If you would have said, "officer, I am a dentist, responding to an emergency at such and such hospital, and could you please give me an escort to the location", I have great confidence the officer, would have taken a quick look at your credentials and proceeded to lead the way.
As far as his age, I highly doubt he was that old. Could be, but very rare. And an officer with that much experience, I am sure would have tried and help if approached correctly.
There are always exception to everything. It might just be how you said it went, but nowhere do you say, you told the officer you were medical personnel, and need assistance of a timely medical emergency. I just dont see it.
Much regards

Sorry to hear about your ticket . I have actually slowed down since I got my TL - got a couple of tickets in a short period of time a couple years back and although they weren't large my insurance premium when up large. Learned my lesson and now I relax and enjoy the drive in my TL .

No, i did tell the officer i was a dentist (DMD) and that i had an emergency... I was wearing jeans and tee shirt at the time....Maybe it was my attire that made him not believe me... or maybe he did believe me, but didn't care.... I tend to think more of the second ...Im sure that if it his son or daughter it would have been a lot different.....I showed him my hospital ID,... I don't know what i could have done differently to convince him . There was really nothing that i could have done.. I wasn't going to sit there and give him a hard time especially at that speed. I am lucky he didn't lock me up and impound my car. I was very polite and courteous - yes officer, no officer. I don't back talk or come across as cocky
Oh, i am sorry if my writing and grammar isn't up to par ... i stayed away from those classes and focused more on science and finance.....

I find especially big city or urban police to be much more understanding of emergencies and special situations, as well as the "was I really going that fast?" when you're sincere.
I Grew up in Philly (where my Dad was a cop under the Rizzo regime, so I'm partial obviously), and often travel through Philly, Trenton, NYC etc; and have the utmost respect for these officers, and in turn they always return the respect. There's always the one that would give his own mother a ticket - but I believe that is the exception, not the rule.
Now - the younger cops in the suburbs where I live with nothing better to do - that's another story! Way too gung-ho and full of attitude for my liking....
I'm off my soap box now!

Oh, if you buy a older used one you can send it into V1 and have the firmware upgraded and it will be like buying a brand new one!
