1st Service--Good, Bad, and Ugly

Had my first service. She (my TL is a woman) said I needed the A1 service. Now, I had to re read my manual to understand, but as I got it, we no longer have service done by miles, but when our car tells us to.

Called my local Acura dealer (Dave White in Sylvania, Ohio) when I was at 10 percent oil life, and scheduled for a Saturday. Told them my TL said I needed A1 done (basically an oil change and tires rotated).

Had 5600 miles.

This is not where I got the car, I had to travel out of town to buy it.

At the dealer, the old guy working in service (retired, works a half day on Sat) said it would take an hour and a half, so I got a loaner and took off (TSX-did not like it, actually liked the 04 Accord better than the 04 TSX-thank God I went with the TL). Well, another aside...the TL is so far ahead of the TSX, totally head and shoulders above.

Go to get my TL THREE HOURS LATER and the dealer hands me paperwork...

$116 dollars??????

WTF??????

For an oil change and tire rotation? Well, the guy tells me how they did the 7500 mile service. 7500 mile service? Um, guy, the TL does not go by miles. He hands me a chart with the listed service for Acura...all my miles.

Apparently he was a wee unfamiliar with the TL...they did this and that...blah...turns out he did the B service, not just the A1...

Had to go back on Monday to complain. They took care of me, the service manager did, I did not even care about getting my money back...he agreed to do the B service for free when I really needed it, but....

How can you have a guy working in service who does not understand the service needs of the new TL?

Yikes, I knew more about the TL service schedule than the service guy.

Very frustrating.

Hehehe... I got my first service FREE! I think even my second scheduled maintenace would be free of charge. That's what I was told when I signed my name at the dotted line when I bought the car.

Anyways, it was an oil change only and some check this check that stuff.

It sounds like you got ripped off. I did mine at a local Acura dealer (not the dealer I bought my car from). I paid $35 for A1. I asked them how much it would cost before I brought in my car.

Mine was free. Sounds like you need a different dealer.

Hmm... Being a newbie here and a not-yet-ready-for TL-kinda-guy, do you think you would have gotten better service had you purchased from the same dealer?

I ask because I am considering a possible internet purchase which, like you, would probably necessitate my purchasing from a dealer further away from where I would get it serviced, and I wonder if my service experience would suffer as a result of my purchase decision.

gottago

P.S. I am not trying to hijack your (OP) thread but your 'rant' raised this question. Please advise if I need to re-post under anew topic.

Some dealers are notorious for treating customers who bought the same car from another dealer with less than satisfactory service. Long wait times and overcharges are the two most common complaints I've heard. I guess its their way of getting back for purchasing somewhere else. In any event, you'll always liable to get treated better if you go back to the selling dealer even if you have to drive a distance. Just my .02.

The A1 service is supposed to be free for everyone, as per Acura. Also, the dealer shouldn't care where you bought the car because they make their real money on service anyway. Even warranty work is paid for by Acura, so they have no reason to treat anyone differently based on where they bought their car. That's just the way most car service places are, misleading, overcharges, and long waits.

Free?

Is this published somewhere in the TL documentation (manuals)? My TL is reading 40% Oil Life and I am curious to find out if my first service is free per Acura. Thanks in advance.

Yes it is documented in the TL brochure on the very last page. Every second oil change is free.

Yea, free? Where in the heck do you derive that the first service (A1) is free per Acura? Please enlighten me. I was also told by an ASE master mechanic that when he sees people driving expensive cars that he typicallly charges more for services rendered. I think that is sad and sick however, reality nonetheless! I was also told that you can have/take your TL to the Honda dealership for oil changes etc and it is a 1/3 cheaper! Anyone heard this rumor and if so what validity it holds?

Has anyone here had a problem getting these two "procedures" free? I am guessing that these would be for A and B service.

I see that maxTL is from Canada, does anyone have a U.S. TL brochure handy to see if it reads the same?

Thanks in advance.

Free

Is that in the brochure for the TL or the Manual? Hell, if they double screwed me, it's time to get double pissed.

As to the question of bad service because I did not get the car there? No, it was an issue that the old guy working part time on Sat. in service did not know what he was doing. The actual service manager gave me no problems.

I did get a thing for the first service free from the dealer I bought it from, but that dealer is almost three hours away.

Where in the brochure does it say, "First two scheduled maintenance procedures" are free or on the house? What page etc would be beneficial as for I did not see this and have the brochure!

When you click on the above link and go to request a catalog you can't select the United States it asks provinence. It also states Honda Canada at the bottom of the brochure!!!! See I knew their was no free service in the states!! Which is bullshit!!!!!

I figured it was a Canada thing also.

Any ideas on why its offered by Acura in Canada but not the US?!?!?

I think the reason it says something different is because that website is www.acura.ca which is Canada's TLD. Sometimes, they will do initiatives and programs in other Countries to match or beat competing companies offers. Kind of like they have the "Acura EL (AKA Acura Civic)" God forbid Acura do something "free" in the goold ole USA!??

No consistancy in pricing!

I just took mine in for A1 also. They quoted 58.95 for A1 service, and that is supposedly with a free oil change included!

Was this the same brochure that said the TL also came with turn signal mirrors?
