17.5 second quarter mile in a tl

i have an automatic.
three runs- 17.5, 17.5, 17.2

this is pathetic. -- then when my buddies jumped in the car my car thatrted to act like itself again- it was fast again on the highway.

I COULDNT even peel out at the tracks.
when we hgit the road i could peel out with no problem.

I AM SO TIRED OF MY CAR BEING MOODY. I WANT TO DECTIDE WHEN IT IS GOING TO BE FAST- NOT THE CAR. F#UCKING REDICULOUS.

(I STILL HAD THE NICEST LOOKING CAR THERE THOUGH)

hah

I know the 3G TL is not particularly quick but my 99 Accord 4AT was quicker than that stock. That said 19" wheels and your woofer system is not exactly going to help your cause in drag racing. Post your slips and let us analyze it a bit....

this really should not be possible......something might be wrong or it is the weight issue.

Big, heavy wheels plus dead weight in the trunk... I wonder why.

Dump 'em, turn VSA off, learn how to launch.

You couldn't peel out at the track because they lay traction compound VHT everywhere. Without enough power down low (hello, Honda engine), it'll actually cause too much drag on these cars.

LOOK. the wheels weigh same as stock. The car is fast high end but only when it wants to be. It is an automatic-- i can not launch it. the car is not slow. it just lags when it feels like it. i dont know wtf is wrong with the "moodyness." i think its the ecu.

I highly doubt his stereo has anything to do with it....i mean were talking 2 seconds off the norm.....not .05

Like others have said, learn how to launch and turn VSA off.

Other than that I have no clue? Maybe put the stock wheels on and try...

What was your MPH in the quarter? That will tell you relative HP the engine is making irrespective of your launch ability. What was the temperature and altitude as these can also affect times. Your car does seem to be quite slow relative to the road test reports I've seem in the magazines (typically mid to upper 14's, and mid to high 90's mph). 6-speeds and auto's.

TLs have a shitty bottom end. Did you just leave it in D5 and stomp on the gas when the greens came on? You should brakestand hold down brake firmly so your car doesnt move and lightly gas it to ~2500 RPM and stay there until green. Then let off the brake quickly and punch it. If your tires dont have any traction then dont punch it but open up the throttle gradually without wheelspin. wheelspin = bad for 1/4.

You can also use Sportshift mode which is the + and - gate. I don't think 3G TLs have D5, D4, D3, 2, 1 but if they do learn how to shift that way. when in SS/GS mode shift right before you get to redline.

that may be but the weight is moved further out wich makes a difference.

Like others have said. What is your 60'

I dont suggest powershifting on our cars, it causes a bog. Either the TC locks up slower or the computer gets confused. When I go to the track I stomp on the throttle, with drag radials of course.

My Eclipse stock ran faster than that!!! It was running 15 seconds in the 1/4, you must have heavy rims or something.

I doubt your car is actually moody..sounds like when your trying to race it the ecu pulls timing or something..I know with my TL its lazy as hell coming off the line and I have trouble spinning the tires anytime..you should be faster than 17seconds tho..there are electric cars pulling that..lol.

were you just cruising to the track or were you smashing there. when you start cruising the ecu memorizes your way of driving. you would have to drive it hard 3 times, to set the ecu to your racing style instead of the cruising drive style.

There is something wrong with your TL. That is absurd. A stock 3G TL auto should run high 14s in the quarter mile when driven properly. Even getting in the 16s would indicate something is wrong. To run 17s says your only running on 4 cylinders or something.

The worst time I've ever had in my TL-S with two huge 12'' subs in the trunk and 18'' chrome wheels on the car was like 15.38 at an import tournament, so something is definitely wrong. I would run 15.1 constantly all day bone stock, and I did pretty well with it bracket racing. I personally just think you don't know how to drive the car.

OK, here's the deal... roll through the water just barely, when you get passed it, brake torque slightly and mash the gas pedal to do a slight burnout. Then, get up to the staging lane, take your traction control off, then when you get your first yellow light brake torque again (up to about 2000 RPM), then just mash the gas pedal and go. Try to time the light well so you aren't sitting at the light when it turns green. Good luck.

No, it's called OE - operator error.

You just don't know your car as much as you think you do, that's all. I'm not saying I'm a car expert, but at least I don't blame it on the car.

Fast only in the upper RPM range? No surprise there, it's a Honda engine. It's gotta build up some revs to make useable power. That's just the way it is.

List your 60' time and trap speed. Or are you avoiding that on purpose because you are afraid we would know it's really OE, and not the car?

that never works for me. i try to drive around the waterbox, turn off tcs then i just do a quick WOT to clean anything that might be on the tires off. i launch off idle 75% throttle until i get moving then go WOT.
