15400-PCX-004 vs. 15400-PLM-A02 (oil filter)

I called Stevens Creek Acura to schedule an oil change, and found out that the ONLY stock oil filter they carry is the 15400-PLM-A02. I talked to Paul te Svc/Pt manager, he told me that this is the only filter this Acura dealer is getting now.

Since I read about how crappy the A02 filters are (it's made by Fram, in Canada), and I believe Mr. RR said once you can actually put a 15400-PCX-004 (designed for S2000, made in Japan) on his 04 TL, I went to Fremont Honda and got a PCX-004. They actually have all 3 filters, 15400-PLM-A01, 15400-PCX-004, and 15400-PLM-A02.

Took the 04 TL in last Friday, they put on the PCX-004 with no problem.

I am not sure what kind of differnce I can "feel", I guess a used oil analysis can have some info.

Mr. RR, can you share some of your experience? Thanks.

There has been enough discussion on the TL filters to know that, if you care enough, one needs to insist on getting the better AO1 filter. Maybe some dealerships figure that we wouldn't know the difference and their stocking what they want is the easiest way out. I do not want to travel all over creation to obtain the right factory unit and might just order a case from the various Acura vendors over the internet. Their price is about $5.50, you just have the dealer deduct it from your next service. What do you think?

I don't have the receipt with me, but I think the PCX-004 is $8, and the PLM-001 is about $6, at the Honda dealer.

Acura did not charge me for my own filter.

I may order a case of the PCX-004 on line.
