You can use one, 16 oz can to a 1/2 tank
OR
1/2 of one 16 oz can to 1/4 tank.
Add the Seafoam to the tank just before you do the Intake sip, sip vacuum method.
You do not HAVE to add Seafoam to the Oil Crankcase (the cap that says 5W-20). You can but you don't *have* to. If you DO add Seafoam to the Oil, change the Oil and Filter *immediatly* after your "Hot Foot" drive.
Keep it Simple. You won't ruin or hurt anything as long as you stay close to the procedure. Here is what I did (also a first timer):
- Bought three 16oz cans of Seafoam.
- When the car was at ~1/4 tank, added 1/2 of one 16 oz can to the tank.
- Added 1/2 of one 16 oz can to the intake. Used the Throttle body vaccum port and the sip, sip method. I put the Seafoam in a clear plastic cup so I could see what I was doing.
- Replace the vacuum line.
- Let the car idle for ~5 - 10 mins after I was done.
- Went on the "Hot Foot" drive, keeping the car at ~4,000 rpm in 3rd gear. On the freeway, I went to WOT a few times, then back down to ~4,000 rpm. Did this for ~15 minutes.
- Added ~ 1/4 tank of gas and then drove and refueld normally for ~2,000 miles.
Approximately 2,000 miles later:
- Repeated the 1/2 of one 16 oz can of Seafoam to 1/4 tank of gas.
- Added 1/2 of one 16oz can of Seafoam to the Oil.
- Did 1/2 of one 16oz can through the vacuum port via the sip, sip method using the clear plastic cup. (This means, while I was doing the sip, sip routine, the Seafoam in the gas was at work AND the Seafoam in the oil was at work).
- Replace the vacuum line.
- Let the car idle for ~5 - 10 mins after I was done.
- Went on the "Hot Foot" drive, keeping the car ~4,000 rpm in 3rd gear. On the freeway, I went to WOT a few times, then back down to ~4,000 rpm. Did this for ~15 minutes.
- Return home and immediatly changed the oil and filter.
- I had 1/2 of one 16oz can of Seafoam left over. So I went and added ~ 1/4 tank of gas and the remaining 1/2 can of Seafoam.
- Drove and refueled normally from that point forward.
I don't know how to make it any simpler. Between this and the actual DIY, hopefully you can sort it out.

BTW - you don't need to change your plugs. BUT it is a good idea to do a Seafoam treatment when you are getting ready to change your plugs.

please see the 12 page thread in gen 2 on DIY seafoam- a work in progress
and the gen3 thread DIY
look at the last pages for best directions
Seafoam is available in an aerosol spray can- way easier to do the intake vac port with a straw and push button! sold as DEEP CREEP, its pure seafoam.
You need to do a warm up drive, then seafoam- then let it percolate/sit engine off 10 minutes- then start- let stabilize and then a few minutes of 2000 rpm drive till smooth- then 4000 rpm for 10 minutes with some vtec run to get stuff hot and moving fast thru the exhaust
ON gen3 there is a main vac port on top of the intake manifold just inboard of the TB connection- look for a finger size hose with a squeeze clamp- thats it
feeds direct to the manifold and all 6 cylinders
Use the straw about 1 inch away and see it make tornados- slow putting it in is better- 15 minutes to get 16 ounces in is great

any ideas?

dont worry about the seafoam color-
Warzone, hahaha-
I usually warm the car up on the freeway then stop at a fast food place parking lot- do the seafoam- then hit the frontage road for the stabilizing drive time- and hop back on the freeway for the afterdrive burn off
that way I dont freak the neighbors

LOL, this is the funniest comment in this thread . I don't even wanna know what my neighborhood will look like with what I'm about to do.
Bearcat, thanks for summing it all up. I'm gonna buy a case of this stuff because none of our 4 cars have ever had it done. I'm gonna start with my 2000 Accord with 115k miles and then work my dad's '95 Camry that has cold start idling issues .

16 ounce can in 1/2 tank of gas will help each of your cars

I make it a point to do on windy days, or drive up the freeway to warm the engine, stop at fast food place exit and use their parking lot to foam- (people often have hood open at a stop like that, no one bothers you, and the smoke isnt uncommon on cars with the hood open either!) (note if a fire station is next door- let them know what you are doing before!)
Then make my escape on the frontage road for the freeway till runs smooth at 4000, hop on the freeway to generate some heat and have fun~

wallyworld has the best single can price, someone found gallon size at a parts store too, maybe special order one for you
#251
Wallyworld, LOL, this thread is hilarious, it reminds me of that Chevy Chase movie...We don't have a Wallyworld here in Northern Cali so I'm gonna pick up some bottles from Walmart since I plan to Seafoam over the long weekend.

Bought 2 cans...used 1/2 can via the sip sip slurp method and 1/2 can in the gas tank.
Followed the instructions and it was really easy. Idle is much improved...lots of smoke felt bad for the lady behind me.
I have plans on changing oil on Wednesday....when should I put 1/2 can into the crankcase??
This was my first seafoam treatment so should I go a full day with the seafoam in the crankcase or more than a day??

1 full can in 1/2 tank of gas
1/2 to 1 can in oil right before you change it- idle 5 minutes, ok to drive 10-30 minutes first, then change when warm
Also ok to install new filter- add 1 can and drive 100 miles before change- heavy duty clean!
Make sure you spray clean the TB main round plate inside it- crucial ,and always getting oil vapor from smog eqiup on it

This is good stuff, im going to try to do thsi seafoam thing. i have heard it for a long time now. Hopefully it will impress me and not waste my time. my tl is 04 and around 60 thousand miles.

I just did my 2000 Accord and it worked out great. 1/2 bottle in the tank, the other half sipped up slowly over about 10 min with pops opening up the throttle a bit here and there. Lots of smoke and it did make a clear noticeable difference in the sound and overall engine vibration.
After the sippage, I went on the hot foot drive and noticed it was almost stalling or staggering a bit, it lasted for just the first two accelerations from a stop as i was making my way to the freeway. Had it in D3 all the time and made several 5k rpm runs. Can't wait to do it again after 2000 miles as I will be pouring half in the oil crankcase this time.
I read people saying you should reset the on board computer by unplugging the battery but so far its running perfect so I'll refrain from that for now.
I'm gonna Seafoam the whole damn family. My sister has an '04 accord with 150k and terrible maintenance, its a great candidate as its idling a bit rough.

no need to reset the computer
Read the DIY and follow- you guys are not getting the most cleaning for your dollar of seafoam- 1 can in 1/2 tank of gas is cleaning dose that 2 oz per gal
read the can!!
Make sure to let it sit for 5-15 minutes engine off after foaming- while you reattach the vac hose and CLAMP for that hose- put the intake snout back together since you cleaned the all important TB throttle butterfly plate-
THEN start and let idle till smooth to 2000,a few minutes-- then drive 2000 rpm slow speed untill smooth again and will go to 4k
then its time for some 4000rpm superheating of the exhaust and engine pistons- that blast the loosened crud particles out much better

While seafoam is combustible- its not pure gasoline, and there is a lot of it in the system when you restart the car---allow it to work through,, then drive
An engine banging and surging and not on full combustion fuel mixture-- not in its best interest to drive!

i seafoam my car and i didnt see any smoke. I put 1/2 bottle to the gas tank and 1/2 to the vac line. I also did it to my cuz 02 tl too but nothing happen either.

Its important to warm the engine and exhaust/cat BEFORE doing seafoam- by driving.
The smoke is a reaction of the oils in seafoam to the heat in the cat, if its not hot...not much reaction
It may not do much at idle but when you go drive it- there is smoke happening- you just cant see it in the mirror
If you followed the DIY directions on application-a feww minutes to 15 minutes to add product
5-15 minutes percolate time then restart- idle- more rpm- drive slowly- etc,,- then its been done well!!
AND you use the vac port right on top of the intake manifold- its held on by a squeeze type hose clamp
Thats the right port to use
repeat in a month for first timers to complete the job- then once a year
Its not a waste of time or money when done even close to the DIY~

1 can 16 oz to 8 gallons gas, thats 1/2 tank
#264
It may as the crud is getting cleaned out of the injectors and off the valves and pistons
As I said its combustible but its not gasoline and it is in the gas and lots of it working thru the system,, so that would be a part of the loss
If you included the hot foot runs in your mileage thats going to throw it way off
Use 1 can in 1/2 tank gas and up to 1 can in the intake manifold vac port
Make sure to clean the TB butterfly plate- thats a milege eater too
gen3 turn on the key to make the TB plate open so you can spray the backside of it and the edges really good, carb cleaner, tb cleaner or deep creep (Seafoam in spray can) all work great

how well you did the procedure affects the results in a big way
There is the instant cleaning of combustion chamber and intake valves, plus if you have it in the gas tank right now- its running on less than 100 pure gasoline
a tank or 2 and it should be better!
Repeat in a month/2000 miles for total effect then once a year/15k
Follow the DIY directions this time and get best results
What vac port did you use- and why only half can in gas and vac port?
You need to do a real treatment to the gas as I have detailed many times 2 oz per gallon of gas. That gives time to clean the injectors and more cleaning of the intake valves. Read the CAN- read their website read our DIY
Without seeing how you did the procedure there is no way to tell if it was done to best effort- I have seen many versions of what they thought was right
Some people find they are driving harder now without realizing it- thats the mileage eater

TB=Throttle body, thats thing the your intake connects to on top of your engine. U must tank the plastic big intake hose off it, u will see a gold of silver thing that moves up and down, move it up with ur hand and spray that deep creep down it and around it, Well some one told me u spray down it? Hope it doesn't screw anything up.

I see thats the TB = Throttle body hahaha silly me, thanks. oh and i want to thanks everyone before hand for putting the time and effort to share info. i already knwo that im going to learn a lot from this forum.

walmart sells can liquid seafoam, ~$7 and zone has for 8-9 in can, and has the aerosol version `Deep Creep` which is my preferred method -
Easy to control and also works to clean TB plate- lube door hinges and 1000 other things!

1 can liquid for 1/2 tank gas
1 can liquid or aerosol for the intake manifold
1 can for the oil just before an oil change- will amaze you what comes out of the engine!

your plugs should be fine still at that miles- just a good seafoam
and make sure you follow the warmn up and after drive blowout (critical) as described in this diy
Seafoam aerosol `Deep Creep` offers way better method to getting it in the vac port, spray small amount -if the engine stumbles.. spray less at a time!
plus cleaning the TB plate- and other uses
worth the extra dollar or make your own spray bottle

so you need to warm up your car when doing seafoam? SHIT!!!!
I did seafoam yesterday after work. i put 1/2 bottle in the gas tank and 1/2 bottle via sip sip method and waited 15 min before letting it idel for 5min. I then rev it up to 5k rpm but when it try to go over 5k rpm it would go. it seem like it stalls at 5 and drops back to to 4.5k. I then drove on the freeway and then was able to go over 5k rpm. but no smoke at all.
what did i do wrong?

There are a few DIY's on this...but warming your car up first is a must, i believe. Then sip it...should take about 10 to 15 min to get it all in the intake...then 1/2 bottle in gas w/1/4 tank....then I shut off and give it 30 min to marinate. Then start it up and get on somewhere you can do 4K rpms for 10 min...then let her rip.
When I first start the car back up after sipping, and drive down teh block...it's a smoke screen!

warm up drive with 4000 rpm very important
do NOT rev the car in park! it has a limiter at 5000 to protect the engine
Read your owner book!!!!
run at 2000 rpm till smooth- then drive in 2nd gear 3000 then 4000 rpm as it smooths out
then 10 minutes 4000 rpm with some blast to 5000
Will continue to get better over the next week as gas keeps the cleaning going
1st timers repeat in a month then good for a year
Its better to use 1 can in 1/2 tank of gas and put in before the warmup drive so its working right away
when you use 1/4 tank you end up refueling soon and diluting the seafoam
It should be 2 oz per gallon of gas = cleaning strength
1 oz per gal is maitenance dose every 5000 miles
Less than 3/4 oz per gallon causes it to be inefficient,
thats per seafoam website

remember to clean the TB plate inside the TB for best results
carb cleaner ok to use on it
Key to ON makes the plate open and close in a self test- you can spray the edges and backside then
