09 TL vs 95 Legend GS

So my car is in the shop right now for some work and I am rocking a 09 TL Tech as loaner for the weekend. A friend of mine has a 95 Legend with the Type II motor and wanted to see how he stacked up against it. So we lined up from a dig, I power braked it and we took off. I only have had this car for a day, so I have no idea how to properly launch it. I instantly pulled 3 car lengths on him. By the time i reached 100 I couldn't even tell you how far he was behind. He told me later that he felt like his car was frozen in time for 5 seconds as I pulled on him off the start lol Anyway, thought I would share with you guys

Seriously, I wouldn't have even wasted time/gas to race him let alone all the way to 100mph.

IS it SH-AWD or FWD model? If you brake torque the SH-AWD model, the transmission will default to launch in 2nd gear, bogging down the car.

It was the FWD model, there was no bogging off the line

Hmm.. 230 hp (old rating) vs 280 hp (new rating)

Not to mention 60 ft pounds of torque difference

And the TL weighs maybe 150 to 200 pounds more.

Somewhat of a foregone conclusion

I love the legend coupe. It still looks amazing. Big car, huge trunk..very roomy rear seating for a coupe too. If my TL goes out one day I may consider fixing up a legend if it's not a lexus GS.

I really like the legend alot. If I could find a used one in good shape(preferably the Type II 230hp 6MT ) that would be nice! Very rare though.

Thats a NICE Legend coupe. I'd grab one if I could find it in that condition.

Looks a lot like my '97 TL when it was clean

That's the thing, they very rare and the ones you do find are mostly beat to shit by the previous owners Some people just don't take car of their cars and they probably don't even know how rare/unique the Legend is.

I'll take any manual Legend (in good condition) if I could find one

That is true. They are very rare. I have driven 1 in my lifetime and it was a blast to drive. Not as fast or as fun as my accord but it did impress me for the time that the car was produced! Most are beat down like you said though.

Most we see are automatics

I have two six speed Legends. And they're both pretty dang mint. Sticker price on these cars was $42k -- 15 years ago. And I still say the styling is pretty timeless.

1994 LS coupe 6MT with 390k miles / desert mist metallic with taupe interior
1994 GS sedan 6MT with 138k miles / desert mist metallic with taupe interior

Where in Arizona are you? I'm in Scottsdale. You're welcome to take one of my cars for a spin sometime

From a photoshoot last year with my buddy John and his black NSX:

Wow cool to see both legends in such great shape with the mileage you have! Very timeless style like you said. Very futuristic for an early 90's ride.

I live in Tucson. Only about 1 1/2 hours from you. Thanks for the invite! Glad to see you taking care of your cars. Hard to find a legend that hasn't been beat down.

Very nice Legends. I think Acura (Honda) designers need to reach back to that generation Legend for future styline cues.

391k as of yesterday. I've owned it since 95k. Original engine, trans, clutch, axles, rotors, suspension, and more.

Bro you have one of the cleanest legends I have ever seen(especially for the mileage)! That interior looks like its in GREAT shape. Original tranny and engine with 390,000k. Says alot for acura/honda quality back in the day.

I agree with the styling too as far as acura needing to go back to the legend type style!

The reason I have my 2G TL is that I think its rear end styling is similar to the Legend.

I love the those Legend coupes. I'd pick up one but too many ghetto-types have them here in NJ......and I don't want the association.

In the 3yrs of ownership, I've already gotten about 8 offers for the car. I really want to keep it, but think I'm gonna sell it in the next 3 months to get a truck.
