08 TL-S Mid Muffler Removal

I’ve been having some trouble this morning trying to find somewhere that I can get my mid muffler removed. I’ve told everyone I want my mid muffler replaced with straight pipe but I don’t want my resonator or rear muffler touched & they either don’t know what I’m talking about or trying to upcharge me like crazy.

The first guy goes back and forth with me & says my resonator is my mid muffler & that he can remove it but he knows I won’t be happy with the sound.

The second guy has absolutely no idea what I’m talking about even when I show him a picture of the undercarriage & tells me it’s illegal.

The third guy knows what I’m talking about but says it’s $250 to do the job.

The fourth guy I had the best luck with but he said it would be $100 to do the job.

If anyone has any advice on what I should do or any shops in the Baltimore area I could go to I’m all ears.

have you tried going into the 'hood'?
the $100 and $250 dollar jobs sound like they dont want your business or are busy at the moment.

a 'hood' exhaust shop should be able to do it cheaply

maybe you're just using terminology they're not familiar with, have them jack it up, point to it and go.

Every shop I went to was a “hood” shop or hole in the wall that’s pretty much the only options in the part of Baltimore I’m in, I think they’re just trying to get over.

I’ve been as clear as I possibly could & I’ve even shown pictures of the undercarriage it feels like I’m dealing with shops that say they do muffler work but never actually have.

they are either busy, or dont want to do the work.
i also find it easier if i provide them with the exhaust off the car..
i've had my jpipe re-welded like 20 times...and if it's on the car, it's extra work for them.
I bring in the Jpipe and ask to get it re-welded, when it's done...i throw $20 to the welder.

Maybe that’s the case, I do have a few other shops on my radar though that I’m going to check out that hopefully aren’t to difficult to deal with.

yep, try more shops!
or you could even lead the conversation with "80 bucks to chop this off and weld a straight pipe in it's place?"

$50 is the rate to chop and weld about a foot of pipe. Job takes 10 mins, literally.

Ask them how much they want to do it and if its too high make them an offer that you think is fair. If the shop are that ghetto then they may accept it.

Was Kelleys Performance one of the shops on your list? Theyre in Bladensburg kinda as hood as you can get. Havent been in a while but their prices used to be untouchable.

Think manager/owners name is Kevin speak with him for a solid quote.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I’ll call the recommended shops to see what they say because the second day of shopping around wasn’t any better than the first.

After a week of shopping around I ended up at Tony’s Exhaust Shop in Glen Burnie MD. It was $80 for the job, still a little on the high end but the shop does fine work as I was told plus I was in & out in only 20 minutes. I’m happy with the sound for now but I definitely want just a bit more volume & presence.

Thanks everyone for the insight, stage 3 is coming soon, I know stage 2 isn’t what I’m looking for.
