Question '08 TL-S 6-speed VS '07 Charger R/T Hemi ???

Okay, I met this kid at my school that owns a 07 Charger R/T 5AT. We started talking about cars and racing and he got cocky saying muscle always beats import.. and we started sharing stories and he kept calling bullshit on almost every race I've won. Then he said "your puny little V6 Honda won't even come close to my 340hp HEMI in a race, I'll have a bus length on you by the time we're done" So I was a little taken back by this BS because I know R/T Chargers aren't THAT fast. He told me to go race a 3.5 Charger, and I told them I have raced them and they're absolutely no competition, I left them like they were standing still.. A civic SI can smoke the V6 Charger..
In any case, he was so cocky in fact he said he will bet me $500 that he's gonna take me with ease.. His Charger is totally stock.. I personally think this guy has no idea what he's talking about and I doubt he ever raced anyone, he thinks his Charger is a rocket.. I did some research and the R/T posts about the same numbers as a 6-speed type S, in some instances the TL-S was actually faster... I suggested 1/4 mile on the track, best out of three... I'm debating whether I should take him up on the bet though.. Just want to see what everyone thinks??

If you are a good driver then take him up on the bet. The best a charger R/T can do stock is a 14.2. I haven't seen better. I do know that most run low-mid 14's with traps in the 96-98MPH range with 2.0-2.1 60fts. Check out dragtimes.com and that will help give you an idea. I think you will take him. From a roll you would pull pretty hard. Off the line they are torquey.

$500 is a lot to risk. Especially since I'm assuming he is AT? If you misshift and you are out $500, you won't be happy. However, I've run one at the track and beat him pretty easily. That was with I/Jpipe and I believe on a 14.3 run, where he ran 14.7. He had at least 20" wheels, but also what sounded like both I/E.

Do 1 run from a dig, a 20 and then a 40 roll. Best out of 3. You will be $500 richer. Sounds like he's doing some ricer math to me.

I'm gonna bite my tongue on this one. It should be a close race. I just looked on a forum and I've seen as low as 13.6 @102.9 stock....now that's with 2.0 60' and such, but that's a high trap for completely stock. Most are around 96-100 from what I've seen. Either way he will not spank you. And those 13.x were very few and far between....

If I were you I wouldn't put $500 on it, but that's just me. Especially from what I just read. Either way it should be a very good run, or series of runs. Get it on tape

OR...you can be like yea you'll beat me. BUT, if I stay within 1 car you have to give me half. Then if you beat him, the full $500. He will probably say "What if I beat you?" Then say "well, you should you have 340hp and a V8" and see what he says

I would not risk 500 on it especially if you are manual against an automatic car that is similiar in acceleration, and agreed most I have seen have trapped from 97 to 101mph pretty consistently. Gotta love that V8 rumble at full accelleration!

If the guy is so hot to bet just go for $50 and the satisfaction of knowing you put the big mouth in his place.

With the intake and spacer you should be able to pull a 14.0 Qtr mile and if I recall correctly the Hemi Chargers do a 14.3 Q mile.

If you can drive you will win.

Okay, I'll talk to him tomorrow and see what he says... I'll try to get all this on tape and post it here.. I haven't seen any TLS going against Chargers yet..I can't wait to rub it all in his face.. his mighty big and powerful 5.7L V8 HEMI getting spanked by the same puny little V6 honda that he was dissing.. and I get to do the spanking in a sexy ass luxury car ...

Subscribed!!... I'd go with what sonnick said....a dig and 2 rolling starts. I'm not sure on your 6MT but the 5AT will do over 100+ in 3rd so there shouldn't be much shifting....

Update: Okay, so I talked to him today and he pus**ed out when I said fine lets go, best outta 3, I could use the extra $500.. He said he doesn't want to put any money on it at all, said we'll just do a few runs on the street or highway somewhere, he doesn't want to go to the track for some reason and I think he did some research or maybe someone told him that his Charger R/T isn't as fast as he thinks... In either case, we couldn't do a run today because it was raining hard most of the day.. probably sometimes over the weekend of early next week, I'll post the results and video if I get it.

hahaha.... I had some gangsta girl that I used to work with in an RT magnum tell me that her hemi would wipe my lil cadillac up and down! she said that even after I told her it had a vette engine... needless to say I put a whoopin on her bad... her excuse was that her boyfriend should have been driving and that she will make sure to have her BF come to race me the next day... well the next day she didn't say shit about wanting to race me... I'm sure she went home and told her man that she got lit up by some guy at work that had a cadillac, who also claimed to have a vette engine in it.. and he prolly told her she was stupid for even trying to fuck with anyone that tells you they have a vette engine....

it all depends on the driver, if you shift good and know how to take of at the track u should take him stock too! I have a small story for you, I live in Brooklyn NY i had a charger 5.7 HEMI pulling up to me and I told him let's go on green and I was in my new 2010 Maxima! he talked to his buddies for like 10 seconds he said he can take me... i said ok bro let's see, green light drops i take off quicker than him but since that muscle car has torque it jumped quicker 0-60 thanme he was ahead by 3 cars in front of me all of a sudden my friend was sitting next to me and he said it's a loss i was like no it's not... i started catching up to him faster and faster all of a sudden I passed him by 1 car and we were doing 120 n change on Ocean Pkwy he stops and gives me a lame excuse that it was something wrong with the car... and he told me he eats G37's and TL's like nothing lol.... I see that the catch in this story is that my friend's TL type S 08 beated my Maxima by 1 and a half car :-) so there you go.. no bs guys true story im not here to lie about my races

I've beat a Hemi 300 C from a roll in my 03 TL-S, you should have no problem from a roll or dig if he's actually stock.

R/T's aren't fast. Too heavy, and they are running on 4 cylinders most of the time (gas saver). I've read that after punching it, they suffer lag before utilizing those 8 cylinders in the "hemi".

I've made a few R/T drivers feel stupid and edged out a couple SRT8's (Charger and 300). (against a G it's a drivers race)

Okay, so I got to race the guy finally, since it was raining Monday Well the race went well (on my part) but the guy won't be racing anyone anymore, at least not on that car.. Besides being a conceited prick he's also a total idiot.. Couldn't get a video cause there was nobody in my car to record, and obviously I cant tape and shift at the same time.. We accidentally ended up leaving the school together, and took a drive to a back country-ish roads that are rarely used... First one from a 40mph roll, I honked off but he took off right before I could do the third honk, jumped ahead a little bit but I started walking him after about 65 and up to 110 when we had to slow down. 2nd run from a dig, again, he pulled up asking me something (to distract me) and jumped on green in front of me again, I caught up slowly and walked him all the way up to limiter ~135mph he was about half a car behind. Third run and this is where the plot thickens....
We pull up to a stop sign, ahead is a little less than 1/2 mile straight but a few twisty turns after that, I told him go up to the speed limit sign which is approx 1/4 mile and SLOW DOWN... we launch evenly this time, stay pretty much even up to 50ish then I started walking him up to about 110 (I went a little past the 1/4 mile cause I know the turn and I know I can take it doing 60-70) I hit the brakes and go into the hard right turn, barely holding the road then the left turn that comes immediately after, I look in the rear view and this moron took the right turn so hard he slid into the oncoming lane, and he's still trying to catch up with me but then the left turn comes and I think he didn't fully recover yet, he turns left and guns it, his car starts going sideways, he tries to correct but his back whips out the other way and he slides sideways off the road hitting a tree around where the driver's side A-Pillar is...I hit the brakes, dial 911.. The rescue squad arrives, they had to cut him out of the car.. The cop asks me what happened and I tell him I saw him in the rear-view mirror, saw him lose control and hit the tree.. Then, this moron starts yelling to the cop that EVERYTHING is my fault, that I was taunting him to a race and he was driving so fast cause he was so pissed off at me..

I got lucky with the officer, he was probably the coolest cop I've ever seen.. He comes up to the guy and goes: "you know buddy, he didn't have to stop and no-one would even know he was here.. . he stopped to call 911 and to help you out and the first thing you do is rat him out?? and try to blame it all on him?? At least have some decency to admit that you both were in a race and you crashed because of your own damn stupidity. Nobody forced you to race him" The cop then comes up to me and goes : "I'm gonna let you slide on this one just because you stopped to help this kid out, racing is dangerous you can't do this shit around here, even if there's no traffic because that's what can happen (points at the wreck).. and this kid got off easy... don't let me catch you racing here again or you're gonna be in deep shit" So anyway...The kid is 19 years old, got his license 8 months ago, the car is registered on his dad's name and the insurance is also his dad's, and this kid apparently isn't even on the policy.. I'm not even sure if his dad knows he's driving that Charger, we'll he'll definitely know now... I told him lets go to the track, but no he wants THA STREETS MAN.. cause that's GANGSTA as he put it... Well there you go.. be careful what you wish for. :\

^^^Bro.....first I have to say I'm glad the kid is ok!! With what you said, karma has its way of coming around. Hopefully this will change this kids character and personality. All and all I have to give you the thumbsup in all this because everyone came out safe and I think both parties learned a very big lesson on top of racing...

This should serve as a proper argument to those saying racing on the streets is safe, even if it's open with no traffic. There are a lot of unpredictables on the street, anything can happen.

Glad you "won" but TAKE IT TO THE TRACK. PERIOD.

Yeah I know.. Altho it wasn't really a street it was a country like road with speed limit of 50.. but yeah street racing is dangerous I'm well aware of that.. Not the first time I've seen someone crash.. A couple years back I saw a srt4 neon fly by me on parkway trying to dodge cars In rush hour traffic and lose control go off road and flip over.. Everyone is entitled to be stupid just I guess some people abuse the privilage :\

Winding country roads with a 50 mph limit and inexperienced drivers in high powered RWD cars is like mixing oil and water.

^^^ Agreed... I won't be surprised if this kid comes back to school and starts blaming shit on me again and trying to pull something... when they were loading him up in the ambulance he lifted his head up looked at me and mouthed "I'll f*ck you up" I don't get what his problem is, how am I at fault here?? He started the race, he refused to go to the track, he can't drive and ended up crashing because of his own stupidity and somehow everything is my fault.? I just don't get some people..

man... that is crappy that he f'd up and lost control like that... sometimes even the bragging rights aren't even worth it... stay safe out there... and watch out for your car at school when he comes back...

i don't think he would spread anything because he was the one that couldn't drive and crashed his own car...

Yeah I don't really care if he spreads anything since he's gonna make himself look like an idiot..But if he does something to my car that's another story.. and I can't even get revenge cause he doesn't have a car anymore.. I guess then it's gonna have to get personal...

Assuming he's around your age I'd hope he's above that petty shit by now. But it probably wouldn't hurt to park around a corner for the next week or so.

You were nice enough to stop, excuse me....had BALLS enough to stop for him. You could've just driven off and no one ever would've known you were involved. Then I could see him being mad. You also warned him and said SLOW DOWN AT THE SPEED LIMIT SIGN.

His ignorance, his stupidity, his fault/story.

Here's the problem. What's been said in this thread is all rational thinking. The Charger owner doesn't quite seem like a rational guy. He's just looking for someone to blame.

Quick Reply: '08 TL-S 6-speed VS '07 Charger R/T Hemi ???
