08 TL-S or 05 RL ?

Being this is the TL forum I may already know the answer to this but I figured it was worth a shoot.

I am currently leasing an 06 TL w/NAv and it is time for something new. Do I stay with a TL but upgrade to the Type-S or jump to a 2005 RL. Price difference will be approximately $8,000 b/w both. All your advice will definitely help me make a decision.

Emilio!! Get the type S, I'm sure you can negotiate alil less the 8k difference. But as time goes bye the TL-S is becoming rarer and rarer. Since you don't like the new body style, you can keep it for 5 or 6 years and then see what the next new body style has to offer. But I have told you this like a thousand times. Guys I need some backup here! Help me convince him!

Wzup brother! As you out of all people already know I am very confused. Right now Delray Acura is offering me the TL-S at $32,332. Im not sure if they will be willing to go any lower then that. Here is the link to the RL I am considering. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ice=&cardist=7

That's a pretty good deal on the S.

Have you driven both? If not, I would recommend a thorough test drive before deciding. Your going to get some pretty biased answers in here.

Bro I know your confused but the RL has 30k miles on it rather than a brand new TL. It is nice but consider your options. Although the cars are reliable you don't want to worry about it having any issues. You don't know how the last person drove the RL or what has happened to the car. With a new car you have this security and with a baby on the way I'm sure your budget can't shell out money for repairs so why not take out the worry all together with the new car.

I drove both vehicles last night. TL as always has a very nice ride , the RL seems to be more refined. What I really like about the RL is all the additional gadgets it has. And at the same time it will be nice to change looks vs keeping the same car for another 5 or so years

Failed to mention; I think the RL is more presentable when working with my clients

as for not knowing how the previous owner treated the RL....unlike TL most people that would buy an RL would be more of the executive type that arent going to beat the car. If it looks well cared for, it probably was.

If youre going for presentation to clients then the RL will certainly win out over a Type S.

you really cant go wrong either way...just pick what you think best fits your situation

Just let you know that 2008 TL type-s is being sold out at this time. Your color choice will be litmited. There are couple of silver and white left in my area. If you wanna get TL , you have to move on very quick.

Are you financing? I got my 2008 TL TYPE S for 31,500 last week. Had I waited till a couple days ago I probably could have gotten it for 30,500 (with the panic in the market on Wed). Still great deal because the car also came installed with the protection package. Floor mats, wheel locks, mud guards (love these for the look), and a trunk tray/cover or whatever you call it. And that package doesn't come preinstalled and the mud guards I had planned to get on my own anyway, so it worked out great.

edit: I got the car in black by the way

ok, there are a few factors to answer to before making a decision:
1. Age
2. Where you drive
3. Who you drive
4. What type of driver (sporty and aggressive or mature and refined)
5. Do you want to be red light racer time to time
6. how much money do you want to save on gas?

Do you think there is a considerable difference in gas between the TL-S and the RL?

With my current TL I dont drive very aggressive. I got most of that out of my system when I had my 04 Cobra pushing 470rwhp and 490 lbs of torque. Dam do I miss that car.

Based off the original purchase date I would have about
1.5 years left on the manufacturer warranty

I would go with the TL-S, and not because I'm biased, but because it's new. As you said, the warranty will be up on the RL in 1.5 years, and if anything goes wrong be prepared to pay a fortune to get it fixed. While it does have more toys than the TL, they usually end up breaking, and they are not cheap to repair or replace.

The TL-S might hold it's value a bit better over time also, since they only made them for 2 years in this generation. When you go to trade or sell it, I doubt there will be many Type S for sale on the used market, there aren't even many for sale brand new right now.

Well, two very different cars. if you're using the car to deal with clients than the RL would be better: nicer interior and softer ride. I don't know what kind of clients you have but I doubt they would care if you have a 6 speed and brembos if they can't stretch out in the back seat. I didn't check the link but if the car is has mileage/time left on the original warranty then you should be okay. If you like the car and are going to keep it for a while you can always go with an extended warranty thru Acura for the peace of mind. And the '05 doesn't look that dated when compared to the 09s.
Yeah it's not a 400hp fire breathing monster but if it's for business then it's business that you need to consider.

I think you should go with the Type S as well but the reason I posted is I saw Delray Acura and I'm from Delray nice to see people from my "hood" on here

PM BlazingGT, I think he had a TL and got an RL. He can give you some insight on the RL.

I would definately go with the TL-S, as you can see that RL has really depreciated over the past 3 years, and it has 30k miles, besides I always saw the RL as an older person car, I say go with a brand new TL-S

Isn't he the one that posted a thread regarding his regret at getting the RL, and wanting to replace it with another TL?

Drive the RL, then the TL-S and see which you like better.

dude I believe you started this in the RL forums also. You are definetly going to get biased answers. If you are young looking for the sporty aggressiveness and you look at the TL-S you WILL NOT be dissapointed. They are both very nice cars and you cannot go wrong with either. I am leaning more towards the type-S because it is new!

but the RL is a gorgeous quiet ride. Look at my age and I am starting to enjoy it.

I did regret it i'll admit it. Like people said I should give it time and I am happy that I gave it time. It is a great car. A sleeper I should say.

I honestly do not think I could ever go back to a 3G TL...only a type S....The RL is very understated

Plus I got many many mods on the way

I never been one to buy used cars, however you could easily get an 08 RL in the high to mid 30's if your buying brand new.

Easy decion. Just rank the following and you have your answer. Just pick one of the two.

1. Luxury --> Sport --> Refined

or

2. Luxury --> Refined --> Sport

I currently own a 6spd 2005 TL and seriously considered the RL. I did not get it because it was a tad more $, an automatic, and I still had some shifting left in me. It was a hard decision. The RL grows on you and it has something that you can't really explain. I was thinking about it constantly. Only the people that have driven the RL extensively know what I am talking about.

I love my TL, but if you drive an automatic, get the RL.

Thanks for all the help. Needless to say I am still confused. I need your help. Today I received the service history of the used RL I am considering. I would like for those that are familiar with these print outs to help me read it properly. How can I post it here?

I can't imagine a 19 old driving a RL .... matter of fact, this old fart (pardon my french here as our whole office ppl dislike him) in our building drives a blk RL & that's why I told myself I can never see myself driving the car as he does ....

So my vote is type-s all the way ... based on my personal experience, you won't regret a bit ....

Now if I jump ship to another company, maybe I can start entertain the thought of driving a RL ... LOL

I have no doubt that the TL-S is a great car. Rather then leasing I plan on buying the car to keep it for a while. Keep in mind that I've been driving a TL for almost 3 years now. Im not sure if I can stay with the TL for another 5 years.

If I go with the TL-S I see myself wanting to trade her in at the 2 year mark. Which means I will probably take a good hit with depreciation

tl-s is hott but people never give the rl as much credit as it deserves..when ever we have to pick up a car, we always take an rl loaner car..i'd rock one if i wanted an auto.
