'08 TL Base Transmission Replacement
Hi all,
It's my first post here but have been a frequent guest for the past few months while shopping for my Acura. Finally, after close to three months of shopping around I’m a proud owner of a 2008 TL base model with 68,300k (currently with 74,968k). I purchased from a private owner in Ohio. It was dealer maintained by previous owner with all history records in place.

Situation: It’s currently at my local transmission shop with a quote of $3,200 for transmission replacement with a 3-year warranty (Dealer quoted $4,400 for replacement).
Question: Has anyone in this forum been in a similar situation?
In a dark and lonely place right now.

If it's shifting badly, you may want to try a few things:
do a 3 x 3 flush with Type-F transmission fluid (the OEM Honda Z1 is crap to our transmissions)
replace the 3rd and 4th pressure switches.
But if the transmission is dead, then I am sorry...
Transmission reliability has always been an issue with these cars, but with proper fluid change and pressure switch changes at the right time, you will not have a transmission problem.
Once you get the new transmission, make sure you switch out the fluid to a Type-F fluid
why replace the transmission? you can get it rebuilt for much less than that. i got mine rebuilt for 1000 less than your so called replacement. what are they going to replace it with anyways? used or new? rebuilding is the way to go, dont both replacing it.
The quote was for a replacement with a rebuilt transmission. They are trying to locate the part that needs replacement to simply repair it at a cost of 1k (approx), which is much better to my pockets but it's still a partial fix with the rest of the parts being left as is. The transmission is already out of the car.
Yes, I believe this was the best way to deal with this situation but out of Dealer phobia and the believe that this was going to be a simple fix, I decided that a Trans expert was the best way to go. Probably I shot myself on the foot here. But now I have to deal with the situation at hand. I can always tell the mechanic to re-install it but it will cost me additional $$ plus the fact that the dealer might detect the trans was already touched by an independent mechanic might not help my case. Three days without sleep and might have to get a loan to have it fixed.
I appreciate all your replies. It helps.
