07 type s tail lights PROBLEMS

I got my 07 Type - S tail lights today from hondaacuraworld.com....

I opened one up and it looked amazing,

I opened the second one up and it was completely and totally filthy.

Underneath the plastic piece over the lenses was tons of dirt and debris and look absolutely terrible It even looks like there is tobacco and peices of cardboard insde of it. There is no way that i can take it out without removing the entire plastic lens piece.

Has n e one else had this problem from hondaacuraworld.com ?

Please let me know this is really frustrating

desper

Mine were a little dirty/dusty too...

And there were some small cardboard pieces inside the housing. I couldn't get to them, which really pissed me off at first, but after about a half hour of shaking/tapping/knocking/cursing, I finally got them out.

As much as I wanted to call Tim at hondacuraworld, I didn't want to wait a couple more weeks to do the install.

But please believe that for $200, I would have complained if I couldn't get them cleaned up.

I just got mine today and have the same problem. There's no way to get all that mess cleaned out. The passenger side tail has a couple minor scratches and some lint on the inside of the clear shield but that's all and I can live with that. The drivers side is all sorts of scratched up and there is a LOT of sawdust type debri under the clear lense. I just emailed tim about it.

So are these problems related to manufacturing ? Anyone know where the assemblies are made. I would assume some of these things are made offshore possibly china.

That sucks man...hopefully they come in soon.

Did Tim say why this happened?

Did you mention to him that other ppl have been having similar problems with the 07 Type-S tails?

just wanna chime in here

i received my 07 Base TL tails today and had similar issues

dust all over the outside lenses and there was dust debris on the inside of the lense

tim is well aware that this is a big problem and he is going to be ordering me a new set as well

he said that he is going to get to the bottom of this and is going to be checking the lenses at the dealership before they ship out to find out what is going on

tim is a good guy and was very apologetic ... he will make things right

well fellas i got mine today from the dealership and same ole prob. it looks like the peices of cardboard from the packaging made its way in through the hole for the signal lamp. Can't seem to get it out though and i don't want to run back to the dealer and have them order another set and wait. Is shaking and tapping on the lense the only way you guys came up with to get that stuff out? Its really ticking me off now.

I know how you feel man, I didn't want to wait either...I almost said f--- it and just left them in there.
Anyway, it took forever, but tapping and knocking worked for me. I just tried to direct the little pieces towards the hole. You might also want to try blowing in the opening to loosen them up a little. There is a lot of static electricity, so the cardboard shrapnel is hard to move...but you probably know that by now.

Good luck!

stupid me didnt even pay attention to this because seriously .. how often does that really happen ... lights were in boxes...

i go out .. install one side .. taking a while because i have never done this .. i get it in .. wired up and SWEET .. looks nice as hell (07 base tails on WDP) ... i put that side back together .. take apart the other side.. remove tail .. bring it upstairs to swap over the LED BOARD and im like WTF ... this dosent look right

I GOT 2 damn RIGHT SIDE tail lights

you dont understand how pissed off i am ... i then had to put that side back together .. then take apart the other side .. take out tail .. swap led board back to the stock tail .. and put the car back together.. a WASTE OF MY WHOLE morning

tim flat out told me he dosent even inspect the boxes ... he orders them .. they come in . he ships em out ... OBVIS this is a problem since the dusty tails is a problem and the people cant even get the order right ...

im very upset with this and plan on just asking for a refund .. ill buy my tails somewhere else unless tim plans on making this up to me ..

why in the hell should Tim have to inspect every damn box?

you have any idea how many things are ordered from him??

what makes you think the next person you order them from is going to check the box......

why do i think tim should inspect the box ?? because im ordering from him ....

tim had already had multiple complaints about dusty taillights even BEFORE my taillights shipped out .... how many have to complain before something is done

i dont care where tim is getting the taillights... its his responsibility to make sure my order is right ...

its just like eating at a resteraunt ... my WAITER/WAITRESS is fully responsible for everything that happens with my meal .. if my meal is wrong .. they are responsible for making sure that its right before it comes to my table ...

if they grab the plate .. bring it to the table and then say oh its wrong .. its the cooks fault ... it might very well be the cooks fault .. hell chances are IT IS their fault... but the waiter/waitress is the middle man who is there to make sure the order is right before it arrives at my table

there is no reason why MULTIPLE .. and i mean MORE then a handful of people are having issues with their orders and nothing is being done to investigate this...

you are right .. Tim is a good guy ... and i guess you could say that im speaking mostly out of frustration ... but there clearly is a problem here ... If tim/hondaacuraworld is going to sell me an item ... then they can be responsible for making sure i get what i order... and if there is a problem .. it is their job to fix it .. no matter whos fault it is

and when i said that tim should be checking the boxes... u would think after a handful of people having the same issue with one particular item .. that they would say " hrmmmm lets start checking these before they ship out .. its clear we are having some sort of issue with this particular item"

2006Civic, let me start of by saying something.

I know it can be hard to understand, and you are very upset about this situation. Tim is a good guy and will take care of you. But like any large company. Let's say Walmart, do you really think they have time to opne every box from the manufacture to inspect the item? No, they get them sealed, they resend them out. So don't blame them, blame Honda/Acura.

He will get this resolved, but don't call Tim and blow up at him when it isn't his fault.

and like i stated earlier .. i dont expect them to check EVERY BOX ... but with any company ... if a particular product .... in this instance ... TAIL LIGHTS .. are having issues.. multiple complaints filed within a short period of time ... any person with half a brain is going to say "we are having issues here with these taillights ... many complaints have been filed .. so im going to start inspecting them when they come in to try and avoid any more hassle"

it would be foolish for me to expect tim to check EACH AND EVERY product that comes in .. but when there is a CLEAR PROBLEM and they are aware of it .. it is their responsibility to inspect this issue further to avoid more problems.

i dont know about you but if i was in tim's situation and received more then a handful of people complaining about the EXACT SAME THING ... id start to inspect that particular item that way i wasnt sending out product that was defective/damaged

and just to be clear here ... Tim is a good guy .. ive stated that already .. and i have no doubt that he will get this taken care of .. it just bothers me that with so many complaints about these taillight shipments... they haven't stepped up and handled it yet .. they are just shipping em out and many people are getting stuck with bogus stuff ...

the few minutes it woudl take for them to open the box and check the product before sending it out would save them a TON OF TIME later on with complaints/return shipping or refunds

I dont have any intention of blowing up at tim .. never did ... just going to let him know that im upset about the situation and hope that we can get it resolved...

#1 thing with me is CUSTOMER SERVICE ... if Tim does right by me and corrects the situation .. ill have no qualms about ordering from them again ..

unless they are knockoffs which i doubt this soon, they are all from Ohio, where all our TLs are also from.

Type-S tailights contaminated!

I got my pair last week from Tim and was waiting until after the holidays to install. I discovered this thread and found both my tails were contaminated with tiny sawdust like material. I'll be calling Tim Monday morning. Oh well...

So here I am Sunday morning eating a bagel and playing with the kids, Ethan contacts me and lets me know what's going on.

I couldn't check for an issue that I didn't know about, apparently in the haste to get these things out from Acura they weren't too careful about the dust issue. I apologize for that. I can check the next batch that comes in, which I believe will be mid-week.

Now as far as the two right sides being shippped, I do apologize about that. It could be a misbox issue from Acura, or it could be our fault. I'm not sure which, but either way I'll get it handled. Not to worry, we'll take care of you to whatever extent we can.

First thing on Monday, I'll nail down a time that these are going to be coming. I'm not going to know ANYTHING until about 9:30 am EST, so I won't be able to answer anything until then. American Honda Parts Division is closed today, and there's little I can do about this.

The only other solution is just taking some compressed air and blowing them out. Has anyone tried?

In any event, email me direct through the website at hondacuraworld@aol.com and I'll catch up with you tomorrow AM at some point.

I started this thread i'll finish it

I tried using compressed air to blow the debris out, unforntunately it is not possible. The plastic lens completely covers everything behind it. There is a small hole in the back of the tail light to allow the turn signal bulb to enter, but it does not lead into the actual tail light, It is completely seperated from the rest of the til light, The only way to get the debris out is to remove the plastic cover on the back which no one is willing to do. If there is any way that i can fix it myself belive me i would I live in Jersey and it was 56 degrees today there is nothing i would have liked to do more than to install these tail lights,

Unfortunately i had to wait 10 days to get them delivered from you, which was fine becuase i knew that when i purched them. But now i have to wait at least an extra 9 days to get one replaced.

Tim was very nice on the phone when i spoke to him, i was the first to complain about the quality and apparnetly there are many more issues,

Hopefully he can take care of all of the horrible quality issues with Honda, or at least check all of the lights before they go out to ensure a quality product.

Until then unfortunatley we will all have to be patient and just deal with the hand we were dealt.

Good luck to everyone

I just spoke with Tim. He will reply to all who has sent him an e-mail with info on when you will get your replacement taillights, with a return shipping label for the contaminated lights. I think this is the best way for all of us to handle this. If you call him to vent you will just slow down the process, but thats your perogative. He will be getting more in very soon, hopefully they wont be contaminated. He will personally inspect every light from now on before shipping. Tim is a solid, stand up guy who will git-er-done.

Just got off the phone with American Honda.

I'm going to have a BOAT LOAD of these things (the TL-S) tentatively arriving tomorrow out of Acura's Troy OH warehouse. If you have an issue with your tails, please email me TODAY at hondacuraworld@aol.com so that I can get your situations handled.

I'm going to personally inspect each light, and just in case, place a piece of painters tape over each bulb hole. Painters tape is easily removed.

After the tails with issues are covered, I should have plenty of stock for orders, but let me inspect the ones coming in. I'm pretty confident that these won't have the same problems, the batch that did shipped to me out of Acura's Loudon TN warehouse.

Update

The tails came in just as expected, and about 30% of the ones I've inspected have the same thing.

So, here's what I'm doing.....

I am personally inspecting and bagging each lamp. My shipping manager has too much to do as it is, so I'm going to be doing this myself. Bear in mind that this is going to be a labor intensive process, and I'm doing the best I can to get replacements out.

Gotta run, I have a lot of work to do here before the FedEx truck comes.....
