07 TLS Exhaust soot on rear bumper

I searched long and hard but did not see anything.

I have noticed that the exhaust seems to leave old Mercedes type diesel exhaust remnants above mostly the left exhaust on the bumper. This is my 5th white car and my Infiniti FX had exhaust pipes that extended out from the rear of the bumper also but there was a black plastic piece at the bottom where the exaust was.

It wipes right off but is annoying... anyone else have these issues? I have 1,800 miles and am using supreme gas.

Thx

If you do a search you'll find that the 05 RLs had the same problem. The soot really showed on light colored 05 RLs. Acura put out a service bulletin in 06. The exhaust tips were replaced with 06 RL tips at owners request, no charge to owner. The 06 tips (finishers) were a redesign so Acura realized it had a problem with the original tips. The soot is still there but not nearly as bad on my PWP 05 RL. If enough owners file complaints, Acura will come out with a fix, may take a year though.

Guess I searched wrong... thanks for the info

His car is the 07 TL type S with the quad exhaust. I don't think this is a problem on the regular duel exhaust on 04-07 TLs.

it's not a huge deal... just that I don't bother washing it too often (not lazy, just where I park at work is a filthy, dusty lot) so it is very apparent... had it detailed yesterday and as they pulled it out, the 2 minutes of the engine running showed soot stuck to the bumper

Only advice I can give you is keep that area of the bumper well waxed. That's what I did on my 05 RL. It made removing the soot a lot easier.

I think it is a huge problem on 04-06 models. My SSM's bumber is covered all the time with the black soot. No one else has this problem?

I've notice the soot, not as much on the bumper but in the exhaust pipe itself. Kind of strange for an ULEV (ULTRA-LOW Emission Vehicle).

Yes because I think TL's have 50% lower emissions than any car in it's class.

This seems to be related to the 3.5L engine from Honda. Our 06 RL is doing the same thing and putting soot on the rear bumper. Ours now has 4k+ of miles.

I believe it also depends on the sulfur content coming from your emissions and this will depend on the gas, etc.
