07 TL Type S maintenance ?'s
Hi! I've owned the car since 12/08'. i've done regular maint. on it (i.e. oil changes), brakes, and had to change the battery once because apparently I wasn't driving it enough/far enough to keep the battery fully charged. Oops. I've also changed tires & had it brought in for the PS recall, which they fixed. Anyway, it's 5at. I have a lead foot. I try to put in the pricey fuel regularly, it gets exp$$. But I always use the high quality oil. ($Cha-ching$). I figure if I was giving a little on the gas, then I should probably make sure it was getting great oil. I feel like it doesn't perform as well as it should...can't explain it, but it almost "drags". Thoughts?

Well for one, if what you mean by "pricey fuel" being premium then you should always use premium. These engines do not like to run on regular grade fuel. Using a high quality oil will not make a difference as far as performance goes, but either way it's always good to use a quality oil.
Only thing I can think of if it feels like it's lagging is use premium fuel, change your air filter, you can do the plugs they are easy, and reset the computer. Maybe that will give your car a "fresh start".

Premium fuel, premium fuel, premium fuel!! Cant say it enough, especially since you have the type-s. Thats the most important, other then that the next major maintenance would be at 105k. I'm sure running a few tanks of fuel system cleaner may help or doing the Dive-by-wire reset.

Welcome to the Azine! And like everyone else says, Premium only. Maybe that's something you should have looked at before purchasing your CBP (Nice Color!) Type S. Overall once you take care of her she will take care of you. Keep her properly maintained, check all your fluids, filters, etc and she will run like a champ! Congrats on the pickup tho. I got one myself one more than 2 months ago and love every moment with mine. You can check my progress thread by clicking the link in my signature below. Maybe you should start one too so we can see some pics? Otherwise

I saw so many people running 87 in their motor swapped Accords (early 2000's) and in their IS300's (previous car) and I just shook my head.
As eastcoastguy says.. premium, premium and more premium!
On a side note, what kind of oil filter is recommended for the TL? I will have to change mine in about 2,000 miles and would like to have everything ready for that day. An Acura dealership is right down the street from me so if OEM is recommended, I'll head there!

oem filter is obviously adequate. mobil one, K&n, etc are good filters. stay away from the fram and stp with the quality cardboard internal element - those are junk. even a bosch/purolator filter is decent.

By 82K miles there are a number of maintenance things you should have done. The car's MID display should tell you when service is required. There are a number of other maintenance items you should do though...transmission fluid, actually all fluids, brake, coolant, etc. If you take the car to Acura for service they would most certainly let you know when maintenance items are required. One thing tho...you should always use premium fuel, it is important to the health of the motor, like the valves, just like good oil. The pricey fuel would cost you about $2-$3 more a fill-up, well worth it. As long as you are using a quality motor oil you'd be fine. Any of the name brands is good oil, and you should be using 5W-20 oil and synthetic. Not knowing what maintenance items you have done kind of straps us telling you what needs to be done. At any rate, take your car to a quality, honest mechanic in your area and ask him to tell you what needs to be done. I hesitate to say this, but if premium fuel is too expensive for you them maybe you shouldn't have a car that requires it.

I use mobile1 and always have the oil changed within a resonable % of "life left" (15-25%).

It's really only about a $3.50 difference between 87 and 93 if you are filling the tank up. That $3.50 per fill up will most likely save you a ton in the end by running the fuel that the engine really 'needs' to run efficiently.

Thanks for the notes. Premium fuel is not "too expensive" for me, it's just expensive period. (Premium can go + $4/gal here - not sure where you fill-up, but the difference is more than $2-3 extra here). Either way, I'm not trying to argue with you...I like to think I'm frugal...but really, I'm just being cheap every now & then! Looking to save a buck or two, but I'll stick with premium! (I do notice a smoother ride). With the amount of money I spend on everything else, I was just looking for somewhere to save. I saved up enough to pay cash for my car, and aside from the gas, I always use top notch everything on her (oil, brake pads etc). I guess it doesn't make sense to be stingy on gas!
I live in Colorado, premium is usually 12-15 cents a gallon more than midgrade, so if a fillup is 15 gallons then .15 x 15 gallons = $2.25, even at 30 cents more than regular that is only $4.50.
Like everyone else has told you, treat her like a baby with the best of everything, and she will return the favor with a very long life.
One forum tip, next to the quote button under the posts is a "multiquote" button, you can click that and answer all in the same post. The last person you want to answer is when you would click the quote button. Then all will be included for your replies.

I don't have a type S but I expect it makes a difference in those to. I use premium 93 (I would use 91 but the place where I get most of gas doesn't sell it) Anyway interstate driving I get 31-32 MPG according to the computer. It might be hard to get that in a type S but I am pretty sure I wouldn't get that with 87. More importantly I am not interested in finding out!
