Nice Southernboy...That battery is the old type. Make sure they replace it with a new one that doesn't have the green indicator on it. Sounds like a fine car!

Funny. My '04, which I bought new in July '04 and was build in the first week of that month, still has the factory battery in it. The factory battery in my '05, the wife's TL, crapped out in the fall of either '07 or '08 (I'd have to check which year), and we had to replace it because it would not hold a charge. We got her an Interstate battery which is a good product and I would most likely go with one of those when I have to replace mine.

My 07 has the old battery, and it shows green as well. Still going.

I am getting a kick out of this thread. I live in northern Virginia and in Dec 2007 I flew to Chicago and bought my 2007 TL-S KBP 6MT. It was certified pre-owned though, and had like 10K miles. I flew out there Sat morning, the dealer picked me up at the airport (dealerships are pretty quiet in Chicago in the winter months I think). I had another Acura dealer do a pre-purchase inspection, and then was on the road by 5 PM. I really wanted to stop and sleep at a motel, but there was an ice storm about 5 hours behind me, so I trucked all night. Pulled into my driveway at 5 AM Sun morning. Two years later, I'm still glad I did it. I LOVE my TL-S!!!

I know SouthernBoy drove the car for you and gave you the lowdown on it already, but there is a REALLY helpful checklist on this site on buying a used TL (any car really). It takes an hour to get through it, but I would bring it with me and tell the dealer ahead of time you intend to spend an hour looking over the car. Good luck!

Absolutely! I am a firm believer in the "another set of eyes" concept, be it people or paper.

Oh, one other thing... ask them to leave the car in their indoor storage area. It is a lot easier to check over the car when you are not outside freezing your buns off. (Of course, it hasn't been that cold around here lately, but you never know). This made a big difference for me considering I was looking at the car in cold-a$$ Chicago in Dec!

Other tidbits:
- make sure they can give you the radio and navi codes (they are typically on a sticker placed in the glove compartment)
- front license plate bracket: VA requires them. Does your state? In my case, I don't think IL does, so I was happy that the checklist mentioned it. They added it for free. I would have been pissed if I had to go out and buy one after getting home. In your case, if your state does not require them, ask them to take it off so you can see the condition of the bumper underneath.
- bring a music CD with you that has a good amount of bass. (I prefer a classic Rush album - Farewell to Kings maybe ) This will be a good test of the speakers in the car and you will hear any rattling. Don't forget to remove your CD when you are done testing!

Feel free to PM me before you actually make the trek out here. I might be able to remember some other useful nuggets.

I got a deal on mine...in October 2008 $29k for an '08 with 4k miles on it, clean CarFax corporate owned car. However, I had to get my own floor mats & Navi disk...no clue why these were out. All in all sounds like a good buy for you & I say GO FOR IT! Mine is NBP but KBP & WDP were my very close 2nds. I'm a realtor & always in Chicago traffic so 6MT woulda been fun but not practical for me.

And now for an update!

So after talking to SouthernBoy and Radley Acura later that night, the salesman was able to sweeten the deal for me...$26500 plus dealer fees out the door and they would fix everything that SouthernBoy pointed out as soon as I put a deposit down. I would pay TTL once I get back in TX.

Well, I was about to go for it, but the Acura dealership in Austin (yes the same one I fought with the sales manager at) had been calling me non-stop for their "routine" follow-up calls and so I decided to call them and hear what they had to say. Turns out that the car went to auction that day and so I found out which one it went to and since I have a friend with a dealers license, I would try to take advantage and try to buy it there instead of the KBP TL-S in VA. The dealer told me that they would run it through auction and if it didn't sell they would call me back and talk numbers.

So the car went through auction, we missed it by about 15-20 minutes, but we were in luck because the car did not sell. We decided to make an offer of $24K...counter-offer of $27750...we declined because I was anticipating the dealer to call me to negotiate some more. Sure enough, he did and so to make my point, I put a deposit down on a '07 TL-S 6MT NBP with 25K miles, CPO, Aspec lipkit, they are going to change the wheels to the gunmetal standard option, all for $27500 + TTL. I go up Friday to inspect the car further and close the deal!

I'll post up once I have the car here at home and I'll throw up a few pics too.

Again, I want to thank all of you for your advice and SouthernBoy for taking the time to travel 25 miles out of his way to help a fellow Acuraziner out! I printed out that checklist that pkarandi mentioned earlier and I plan to go through it before signing on the dotted line! Stay tuned!!!! I can't wait to join the rest of your folks as a TL-S owner...

Sounds like you got a good deal on the car you originally wanted. Congrats!

BTW, I still think KBP > NBP

No doubt! NBP was always my first choice, but I do like KBP...like I said, my first car (2000 Civic Si) was electron blue and I loved it. I'll definitely be throwing up some pics for all of you to see once I get the car home!

How was the drive home? I'm sure it was a good opportunity to get to know the car real well and mess with all the cool tech features it has...

Any of you care to share cool tidbits to the rest of us current and future new TL w/ NAVI and TL-S owners?
