'07 Fog lights on '05 - complete

Well, I FINALLY got them done. here are some pics.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

The Drivers side sticks out maybe an 1/8 of an inch so I will probably rip the bumper off & fix it, but not for a couple weeks.

It took me about 5 hours to mod the bumper & grills, it took another 3 hours to combine an acura "VSA Off" switch and the honda fog light switch.

Between the new fogs and the 07 TLS tails & markers, I am not sure which end is my favorite view anymore.

Fixed the driver side

Well, that lasted a long time. I couldn't even go 2 hours knowing the drivers side fog light stuck out a TINY bit mopre than the passenger side, LOL.

They are actually the 05 accord 4DR fog lights from ebay. ($37 + shipping)

I used the insternals from the switch that came with the fog lights, but I used a dremel & epoxy to attach a VSA button. Then I took some 400 grti automotive sandpaper and sanded most of the "OFF" portion of the switch so that there is a white square. used a permanent marker to cover the "VSA" portion. that just leaves a white square that lights up when they are on.

I was not willing to do an 07 bumper as you would also have to get it painted, buy the 07 fog lights, mounts, wiring harness, some sort of switch, new grill......
approx $1000 for that route, assuming you do all the work yourself.

Total cost for what I did was about $50 and about 10 hours of my time. (I am REALLY picky about how things look so i too FOREVER on the switch & trimming the grills to fit.

I will try to get some close-up pics this weekend. I hope to run the wire through the firewall for the switch tomorrow night.

a couple "tips" for others

Forgot to mention a couple tips:

IGNORE the mounting brackets that come with the lights. I found it MUCH easier to simply situate them the way i wanted and drill into the backing of the bumper. (THE gray plastic that is behind the grills)

When you trim the grills TAKE YOUR TIME. cut them to within about an inch of where they need to be then SLOWLY use a dremel with a sanding wheel on it to trim them. TRim a little, test fit, trim a little, test fit, and repeat until it is right (or until you go insane)

Pay attention to the fact that the fog lights are angled both front to back & top to bottom when trimming / cutting the grills. (I REALLY sis not want to have to go to the dealer to order any replacement grills)

Trim the backside edges of the fog lights to make them fit right. I actually retained all but 2 of the mounting tabs for the grills on each side. I trimmed the edges on the end of each of the fog lights to hold one set of grill tabs in place. (you will need to look at your grills to understand what I mean)

All I can think of right now.

How do you plan on wiring the fog lights? I think it would be a really clean install if someone was able to figure out how to incorporate the factory fog light switch instead of using an additional switch. Anyone know if it's possible to disconnect the factory wiring for the fogs and connect to this retrofit?

Great job. I like the look plus the TL-S rear lights. How did you do the PIAA reverse lights. Did you just replace it? I want to do that mod with my 06 TL.

Fog light switch

I wanted a "clean" factory look as well. that is the reason i created a custom switch for the fog lights. I have a fog light switch in the dash on the left side of the steering wheel.

It even lights up the same color as all of the other button lights.

I was in the dealer yesterday, and they apologized for the extra hour they had it because they said everyone kept coming over to it to look at it to see how I did everything as they all thought it was a 07 TL-S at first. (made me feel good that they approved of my work:-)

Reverse lights

For the reverse lights I simply replaced the stock bulbs with PIAA Extreme White W2 bulbs.

the stock bulbs are 5W

The PIAA W2 are 18W. they are VERY bright and very WHITE, no yellow.

I normally do NOT condone replacing with higher power bulbs due to fuse & oeverheating issues, but i am not worried about it with how little the reverse lights are actually on.

fog light switch pic

Didn't realize i hadn't posted a pic of the switch. now I understand all of the questions around it. When you marry the VSA button to the accord fog light switch that came with the kit, I took the light from the VSA switch and put it in the fog light switch to ensure the same color lighting.

[IMG][/IMG]

I went this route as I am thinking of using my factory "fog lights" as either DRL's or putting yellow lights in them to really help in foggy conditions. wither way i wanted to be able to control them separately.

Awesome job, something I need to look into. I have a DRL module now so I use the current fogs for DRL mostly, also want to get some really yellow bulbs in there.

The only problem I see I might have is placing a switch for the fog lights. I am using the location you used for the DVD switch. I need it to look as OEM as possible. About wiring the fogs, any fog harness from Walmart of the like should work fine. I used to have it that way in my previous car, just run the power from the acc switch, so that you can't forget them turned on, as soon as the key comes out, the lights go off no matter what position the switch is in.

And you have total independent control of those lights.

I have a few questions, the way you mounted it, is it possible to align the lights? and how hard would access be to replace the bulbs?

Let us know how everything turns out, I would love to see pics of everything lit up.

Yes you can align the lights VERY easily. I have it setup so that you can simply push the top or bottom of the LIGHT (not the mount) to alighn it.

The bulbs are not that difficult to replace. You DO have to pop out one of the snap caps on the bottom of the bumper though so that you can push up part of the plastic to reach the bulb from underneath the bumper. (still MUCH easier than removing the bumper & light housing as is required to change the front turn signal bulbs)

Can you explain how you actually did the wiring in a little more detail so we understand that part. Did you remove the bulb completely off te VSA switch to the other Accord light switch so now the VSA doesn't light up? Also I assume there was a relay in the mix somewhere. How did you get that hooked up to the switch, etc.

Can you show a picture from behind the lights? I want to see the beam pattern.

From foot3H's install, iot seem like the ligths oriented at something like 45 degrees from the bumper, which kills any effectiveness.

Switch lighting

Parts & tools:
05 Honda Accord 4 DR Fog light kit (eBay) $37
04 - 06 Acura TL VSA switch (dealer) $8
Flat black paint for plastic (hobby shop) $5
sand paper
needle nose pliers

I bought a new VSA switch from the dealer ($8). I remove the button from the VSA switch, and then from the side of the VSA switch i used a dime to turn the bulb 1/4 turn and pulled the bulb out. (the bulb is mounted on a small blue piece of plastic) I then pulled the blue rubber cover off of the bulb.

I took the fog light switch that came with the fog lights (05 Accord 4dr Fog light kit from eBay) and took it apart completely. (it is 4 pieces - The green circuit board, the white wiring harness connector, the black housing, and the black button with "plunger". I cut the "plunger" off of the button and used epoxy to glue it to the VSA button. I then test fitted the button plunger back in the fog light switch housing to ensure it slid smoothly all the way up and down.

next I took the blue rubber bulb cover from the VSA switch and put it on the lower bulb on the circuit board from the fog light switch. I also removed the upper bulb with a soldering iron as I only wanted the button to light up when the fogs are turned on.

I then reassembled the new VSA button with the rest of the fog light switch parts.

I then test fitted the switch in the dash to ensure it worked properly without binding up. (you can remove the "blank" that is in the dash quite easily. remove the driver side air vent and then you have accces to the back of the lower panel without having to remove that panel.)

Finally I sanded down the entire VSA button so that it was entirely white plastic. I cut a small square of "painters tape" (Blue tape you can get at any hardware store) and placed it on the switch where i wanted the light to be when I turn on the fog lights. Then I again diassembled the switch and painted the button with 3 coats of paint. (allowing 30 - 60 minutes between coats) after the last coat was dry I used needle nose plyers to remove the tape square.

I then reassembled the switch and again fit it in the dash panel. this time it did bind a little when i pushed it in, so I had to remove it, and lightly sand down the back edges to remove a little of the excess paint. (the edges i am referring too, and NOT the edges of the face, but the edges that will be hidden when the switch is in the dash)

I then mounted the switch yet again, and this time it worked perfectly.

I'll try to take some at night.

The beam angle is about 10 - 15 degrees. it is NOT as bad as some might think, because the edge of the light closest to the center of the bumper is recessed back about an inch from the front of the mount, while the outside edge of the light is only recessed about 1/4 inch from the edge of the mount. This offsets most of the angle to the bumper curve.

love the lighted pics. you did a really awesome job man!

one question: when you flash your high beams, does any of your other lights go out or do they all stay lit?

Yes I did remove the front bumper. It COULD ne done without taking it off, but it would make an already painful job down right nasty.

The factory lights still go off when I flash the high beams, but my new fogs remain on as they are simply tied to an ignition keyed pwer source.

Thanks - You did an amazing job !!!!! They look great.......... I took a good look at an 07 TL today while on my way into work (girl at work has one) and the fog housings are not dead center straight in their angle either - but I bet the lights are aimed like you did straight on.

Have you seen the fogs on the Maxima???
Saw one yesterday - they are on the side of the bumper??? Wierd....

those are cornering lights. they go on when the car enters a turn and the headlights are on.

some cadillacs have them, saab's and a few other cars ive seen. most compensate with the swiveling HIDs (i.e. Infiniti M)

That is the reason that I really LIKE the fact that the fogs are angled slightly. it lights up things in the road you might not otherwise see when making a turn. (I try to avoid things that will eat my wheel / tire:-)
