Yes, a Neon raped me. I wasn't racing at first; just going regular stop light to stop light coming home. I was just having some fun to myself, flooring it after every light since I had just come out of a very dull class (Econometrics FTL).

Anyway, at one of the lights when I took off, I saw a car just zoom by me. I mean he FLEW by me. We got to the second light and I saw it was a Neon. I figured it was an SRT so I rolled down my window to confirm.

The driver of the other car said his car was bone stock (which I highly doubt the way he was taking off).

We took off again and I just couldn't get a good launch. Loads of torque steer off the line (my car is 5AT).

We went up to about 75, but he was far up ahead, quite a few car lengths. After that it was time for me to turn. Gave the thumbs up and went about my way.

 

nice race man. I have had the same bad luck against the SRT-4's. I raced one from a 40mph roll which is a great sweet spot for me and I got taken pretty badly. He had me by 2 cars at 70mph.

 

He wasn't stock.

 

What is the HP on the SRT4s???

Yeah it sucked by I kind of expected it. He had some mods going for sure. I just wanted to see how I would keep up.

 

i hope most of you know that those are WHP figures (dodge underrated the engines)

ah haha. ^^ That pic of the door, the car was in a accident. I had a 2000 dodge neon base Rental. (base as in roll up windows, no RPM gauge, no cd player, nothing) 132HP and 3 speed automatic trans. SOOOO slow, 0 to 60 was like 10 secs. But does have a top speed of 121MPH, took 3 full miles to get to it, then the gov kicked on. The TL is sooo much faster then that car LOL.

 

Stock for stock..the SRT4 is faster....

Conversely, the Neon driver also has an extra $15k to spare!

 

If the neon driver is buying the neon he probably doesn't have that 15k to begin with.

 

That made no sense...particularly as the SRT4 when new priced at a little over $20k. If your goal is the insult an SRT4 driver for choosing it over a $38k Acura TL Type S, then you're just being immature. As cheesy as some of the trim may be, the SRT4 represents unbeatable performance at its price point...especially for those who may want and Evo or STi type car but does not have $35k to spend on a subcompact on steroids or an entry level sports sedan.

That said, this thread and forum is about a speed contest between two cars NOT a comprehensive comparative analysis of two. The 'but it's still a [insert derided brand here]' is a very weak and elitist argument that gets old.
