'06 Base Aspec Install with pics
Ok so my kit came in today. Dont have time to do it all in one sitting, so today I hammered out the side skirts. The kit comes with very good instructions, but pictures and personal experience always help.
So the kit came in a nice big box, all well packaged.
[IMG][/IMG]
First step was removing the stock side skirts. Because I had never removed them before, I wasnt exactly sure how the clips held them in. First I took out the screws in the wheel well. Mine had rusted in place a little so it took a little muscle to turn them at first, but they came out easy after that initial turn. I short screwdriver would REALLY help. I had to use a bit and pliers to get a good angle on the screws. Then get the push clips under the car, there are 3. Next is a little tricky. I couldnt just pull outward on the rear part like the instructions said. I tried on one side, but ended up chipping part of a couple clips when it came loose. The better way is to push the skirt forward and then pull. It still might damage the stock skirt a little, but it leaves the clips safe. Then pull the rear skirt back, it just slides off with a little tugging. On the front, just pull it forward, it too will slide off. Now, make SURE you get ALLLLL the clips, especially the little metal spring clips. I dropped one on the driveway and had to go hunting in the dark for it. You'll need these later. Pull the white clips out as stated in the instructions, its easy. Setting up the aspec skirt is easy, just follow instructions and it all just snaps together. Putting the side skirts on is even easier. Just push the clips all in, put in the screws and thats it.

Tomorrow I hope to get the rear bumper done. Till then I have a teaser for the front. Just popped it in place for pics.

I had the pleasure of installing the Aspec kit on my '05 TL and the side skirts are by far the easiest to install. You have to drop both the front and the rear bumpers to install the rest of the kit. Make sure you clean the surface very well with alcohol wipes and do a final wipe with some Goo Gone. You may also want to get some 3M double sided tape to make sure everything sticks well.
One piece of advice...on the rear bumper make sure you drill the holes using the LOWER marks. The upper marks are for the rear bumper sensors. One of the guys here drilled throught the wrong marks and ended up having to buy the rear bumper sensors to cover it up. Good Luck!

quick question about the side skirt. I noticed that the front part of the skirt rubs on the door when I open it. It looks like the plastic is slightly warped. I tried double sided tape, but it wont hold on the foam thats underneath. Any ideas? Got the rear bumper done today. Pics and description up in a minute

This is because it is not positioned 100% properly. Kneel down facing the side of your car, and grab the side skirt on either side of the seam where the two pieces meet. Spread the pieces apart towards the wheels so that the seam gets a bit bigger between the two pieces. This will solve your problem.

OOOKKK. So I did the bumper this morning. wow that looks nice. Well first things first. here's some pictures of the side skirt after install.

Bumper. Need to start by removing the clips. Nothings too difficult here, although I strongly suggest working when the car is cold/cool since you'll be right around the exhaust. These screws and clips are pretty easy to find and remove. The two bolts are found by opening the trunk lid and removing the covers. easy. Be careful when removing the bumper so you dont scratch it, otherwise its just held in with pressure clips and doesnt take too much force to pull it out.
[IMG][/IMG]
First I prepped the aspec part by taping the backing so it can be accessed later.
[IMG][/IMG]
Again, be careful not to scratch anything. I worked on a table. Ok now I put the aspec aside and brought the bumper to the table. Here you have to find and drill the holes in the right spot. Like they say, check and double check before you drill. Some people have pointed out that there are two markings. Be sure to pick the lower ones, you can kinda see in my pictures where the marks should be, they are faint crosses with a circle in it. I had to brush away a lot of dust to find it..lol. Following the instructions, I didnt find anything too tough from here. Just line up the bumper and aspec and screw/bolt them together. Do make sure to tighten the bolts down good here so you dont have to worry about it later. OH and make sure you clean the bumper REALLY good with isopropyl alcohol. Now we move to mounting the bumper. This wasnt tough at all, so just follow the instructions. Just make sure all the bolts are nice and tight. Before tightening the screw attaching to the fender bracket, make sure you pull up on the aspec to get it to sit as high as it can. I THINK its supposed to sit flush with the body joint that's there. I didnt realize this till later and mines about 1-2mm low. Not that big of a deal but ya. Now carefully pull out the backing to the tape. Make sure to pull straight up on the backing so you dont cut it by accident, then push and hold for 30 sec.

Work from center out, gaps should be almost nonexistent. I have two tiny gaps near the flank(?) area but its maybe the width of a paper so no biggie. And that's it really. Took me about 2 hours, but I couldve done it faster if needed.

Oh any one know why they have you drill that 10mm hole in the aspec? Pics in a minute.

thanks, ya the difference between the skirts isnt much, but it does add a bit of flare to the side of the car. If you put them side by side, the aspec are longer and wider.
next is the front. Need to figure out if I need to use my friend's lift or if I can manage at home. We'll see.

Ok to address the rubbing skirt, I just hot glued it to the foam underneath. Looks like its holding and the door no longer rubs. Easy fix. Hopefully can install the front tomorrow. Dont have jacks or ramps. so I might see if rolling it up on some wood will give me enough space to squeeze a drill under.

well I worked on the front some this morning before I got a frantic call from work saying they needed me to cover for a sick person.
Anyways, I got the drilling under the bumper done. I didnt have a jack or anything so I stacked some wood boards to make a ramps. Raised it about 4 inches, but it was more than enough for me to work under the bumper and more importantly, fit my drill there. I did have to improvise a little because I didnt get a set of templetes. I think I was able to line everything up well enough though. I guess I"ll find out when I finish everything later today!

Alrighty, All done!!
Front was much easier than I thought. Only issue I had was when i mixed up some of the screws. No biggie tho. I do have a very thin gap in some areas of the front. I can see the tape holding, but there's still a little gap. Its not a huge deal, just wish it wasnt there. I also had to improve some with the lack of templates, but that didnt prove to be an issue. anyways, here are the pictures, starting with how I lifted the front so I could crawl under.
[IMG][/IMG]
To the clips under the car.
[IMG][/IMG]
Brackets in the wells
[IMG][/IMG]
And the final product. Car needs a wash and wax. I'll post better pics from an SLR camera after its cleaned. Till then.

thanks everyone. I think my next mod will be plasti dipping part of the grill to have the floating A look. And possibly plasti dipped rims just for kicks, we'll see lol Definitely the grill.
I also will remove the amber side markers, black out the chrome on the sides and stick a switchback in. Havent decided if I wanna do type 1 or type 2. I like the white-off-amber because that has the most 'clean, stock' look. But the white-amber-white looks really cool...
Oh I have gotten a LOT of compliments from people that have seen my car on the road. Everyone loves the aspec kit.
