05 tl AT vs 04 mustang gt conv MT ?

i saw two mustangs racing the other night from a light. after lots of engine revving and huge wheel spins at a green light, i began to wonder if my car could take a mustang. Mustangs GTs seem fast but TL is fast too. Any one walk an 03-04 mustang gt out there with a TL? would this be a good match? also what about the new civic si. think the 05 tl AT could take one?

opinions appreciated.

Don't know about the new Civic Si, but I raced stock for stock in against the GT, and either it was a really bad driver, or they aren't that fast. But the new 05 GT 6 spd manual is dangerous.

IT would be close with a Mustang GT. But on paper it should beat the TL.
My little sister(18) has the new Civic Si. I pulled up next to hear around 65mph and floored it...so I had a little jump but she stopped my pull and then I didn't start inching away from her until around 100+. My TL is a 5AT.
New Si are no slouches.

It doesn't have the torque to really push you back in the seat like the TL but in the Si, once you hit 6,000 rpms...its a night a day difference. I found myself tapping the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd gear.

stock for stock I'm not sure, when I only had exhaust and intake, was able to pull 1 car length around 80mph... but from the start... the GT had a great jump off me. That was a coupe.... not sure about Convertible as they are a bit slower..

I raced a '00 Mustang GT with 20's on it, and I have an 04 AT with 19's & CAI. He did a lot of engine revving and spun when the light turned green, I was then half a car on him and kept pulling away.

an 03-04 mustang gt MT would with a decent driver would beat an 05 TL 5AT pretty easily and would beat a TL 6spd by a hair too. those cars have 302/tq and run high 13's-low 14's stock.

the verts are slower and he probably had an AT or he would have beaten you by 3-4 CL's. the MT's are a lot faster than the AT's.

You are right from 99-04 the manual GT's are alot quicker than the autos, the auto 00 GT Vert I drove just didnot seem to have that much get up and go. I do love the sound of the auto GT though.

He's talking about a CONVERTIBLE 2003~2004 Mustang GT MT. They don't run low 13s..........

Mustang GTs have 260hp. most of them run mid 14s. They can get maybe a low 14 or high 13s on slicks. Trap speed is around the 97-98 mph range

Mach 1 is a different story. They can run low 13s stock and trap around 105mph

OK I race my 04 6MT TL againt my friends 05 Mustang GT AT hard top, not convertible. We mess around quite a bit and both of us are bone stock, well i've got OZ 19's on mine. I've got videos of us at the track, on the street (from my brothers evo), from a roll, from a start; so if anyone knows a good way to host, i'll put them up. Basiclly from a stop the mustang will take the TL everytime due to traction issues. But once the TL grabs and moves to it's prime the GT will not pull until middle of 3rd. Now on a highway run, from a 40 punch, the TL is side by side until middle of 3rd then the GT pulls almost half a car; but middle of 4th the TL will inch back. Now at the track the TL will drop 3 tenths at the track and gain 3 mph by running my stock wheels with the stock summer tires and pressure dropped to about 18psi. On the highway with stock wheels and summer tires from another 40 punch the TL will hang side by side and eventually pull an inch or two by the middle of 4th. Mustangs quickest time at the track was a 14.1 @ aprox 100mph.

Is your friend modded, because in general most auto GT stangs from 99-04 donot trap at 100.

My TL is an 04 but my friends stang is an 05 and all we have on there are some lowering springs. I'll have to double check his trap speeds but i'm pretty sure it's aprox 100mph give or take a couple of tenths.

I'll try youtube, thanks.

OK so now I'm sitting at work text messaging my friend. He has hit a 14.19 @ 99.7MPH but he claims that as a fluke. So the rest of his time slips show 14.2 @ 99.X (almost 100)MPH. He tells me that his 4th gear kills him and it goes into forth at around 90mph, which is the exact time that the TL seems to want to pull back, if we race that much further. Mustang auto or manual is still only a 5speed for 05 anyways. So TL 6MT has an advantage there.
