'05 TL brake & rotor recommendation??
hello experts
i am planning to diy my front and rear brakes
i did a search on it but couldn't narrow it down
i do mostly freeway drive on a heavy traffic area
please help me to find a decent rotor/pads set that is dust and squeal noise free. i've heard solid rotors are better than drilled or slotted but whatever works for me
will i need a new calipers? i have 05 tl with 160k miles. i took over the car when it had 32k on it. never changed rear pads and calipers for front and back
please recommend for a newbie!! thank you
oh do front and rear share same pads/rotors/calipers?

D/S rotors are aesthetic same as the Big Brake Kits. At least in our application they are.
I used evolution Z pads and they have lasted me 30k miles so far. They are getting down to about 4 mm.
I never heard of the brand and I took a chance on them.
I have had zero issues with brake dust, noise, and stopping power has been good. I'm going OEM next round. I see no point in playing with pads for daily driving.
oemacuraparts has a maintenance tab where you can order the correct oem pads for front and back, that's what I would recommend.

Mr.heeltoe brake package OR Racing Brake Slotted Front Rotors in my opinion. I own the latter and do mostly highway, front rotors have withstood about 120K without need to be resurfaced with 2 sets of Acura A-Spec Pads. The rears needed to be resurfaced after 80K, 3 sets of rear pads. I wouldn't recommend the slotted rears as they do nothing.
Don't go with cheap pads/rotors, most folks regret them after 50-60K miles and that's when they have to spend the money twice including labor. You can spend under twice with labor once and get brakes that last a lot longer.

I would recommend a package from here. This is what I got, and have heard nothing but good things about it.

$500+ Packages and slots and drills are nice for looks, but pretty much a waste of money. You can easily drop a couple hundred off that price if you go with Centric High-Carbon rotors instead. Centric is the company that makes Stoptech and their High-carbon rotors are the same blanks they use to make the stoptech & powerslot high performance rotors. Many of them even include directional internal vanes (TL front non-brembo rotors are directional I believe). They cost about half the price of the slotted version, but still offer the high performance long-wear alloy, fully machined hats, electrostatic black coating and enhanced cooling possibly with directional vanes.

For Centric pads I use two options...
- High Performance driving: Stoptech 309 compound (high bite, high temp, abrassive to rotors, noisy & dusty)

- Normal driving: Posi Quiet Extended Wear 106 compound (normal bite, normal temp, easy on rotors, quiet & low dust)

They also make lots of other options at all different price points: http://www.centricparts.com/products/brake-friction
I used to buy at AmazingSavingsAutoParts.com but their shipping prices seem to have skyrocketed lately.

No problem.
Currently I'm using High-Carbon Rotors and stoptech pads on the front of my 05 Brembo TL. They feel the same as the expensive OEM Acura/brembo pads, yet dust AND cost about half as much. They do make about the same amount of minimal noise as the brembo pads, but only when I 1st start driving (cold).
The silly thing is that my conservative driving style don't really need such a high temp performance pad. I feel I could have definitely eliminated most or all the noise and dust if I had opted for the still-cheaper Extended Wear pads. Unfortunately being a car-guy I was unable to be that logical & honest with myself. Still I have no regrets going with the stop-tech pads. A little dust & squeals doesn't hurt my ego.
