05 tl 6speed vs 07 tl-s auto

ran a local Azine member earlier tonight, good races, couldnt do low speed pulls because his 3rd gear was having problems, so we did rolls from 60. we did the first one in 3rd gear and it was very close, he inched away from me a bit little by little. we tried another one and i started in 2nd and he still only did 3rd gear. i took off faster and pulled away after that, but i suppose it wasnt fair because he wasnt in 2nd. all in all a good race and i met a cool guy. i guess i can say the 6speed base tl is marginally faster from a roll. next time when his 3rd gear is fixed we can try from a dig

Nice run! Was the TL 6MT stock? You have a CAI

That sucks that his 3rd gear is bad. Tell him to get the TSB! They replace 3rd gear because it was a problem for most Honda 6 speeds.

I'm interested in a 1st/2nd gear roll. 60 really isn't a good roll for either car (65-70 is better, especially for the auto). So a 1st/2nd gear roll would be interesting, both cars being in their powerband. on doing this.

Nice runs! It would be interesting to see the race from a dig and a low speed roll.

Don't know if its typical but with enough RPM at launch to give a quick chirp & no bog the 6MT is quicker then the S 5AT. The mt has a full mechanical LSD & gear ratio advantage in every gear which helps greatly.

Would expect the 6MT S to be a bit quicker then the TL 6MT. Never had a chance to run an S 6MT in the time I had the TL, just not that many around here.

Gman, I suspect with my gearing, i'd still take the advantage.
on the 19th a bunch of Houston members are traveling to san antonio for a meet.
I'll do some rolls with a type-s!

then you'll lose a higher % of the gains to the wheels through the auto tranny than a 6MT would, thus giving him the edge.

yep. it has up to 1000rpm slip between 2-3 shift and maybe 200rpm slip from 3-4 shift. a 3-2 downshift will jerk the car if i gas it during the shift. occasionally, the car locks me out of manual mode and every shift(1-2-3-4-5) will all jerk hard, but if i restart the car it becomes ok again. i believe i have the most screwed up auto tranny in the world. however i cannot have my car down for a week so i am waiting until after summer school to rebuild it. that'll be in 3 weeks.

You told me I was 2-3 cars ahead of you by the time we hit 120 MPH. Isn't that far from a 'little close'?

Good runs though, and paperboy is a cool-ass guy. He helped me out with getting new lenses and bulbs to make my projectors almost as pimp as my AP1 'legendary' headlights. Oh and his Type S looks awesome.

haha yea it was like 2-3 car lengths, but at 120mph, 2-3 car lengths is pretty close since we're only like less than half a second apart

If you had a normal trans you'd probably be neck and neck if not faster IMO

I doubt he'd be faster, but it would definitely close the 2-3 car gap.

Paperboy: If you're gonna rebuild the auto, might as well get a 6MT swap, right?

yea im not sure how much power i lose from the tranny, because it shifts ok under WOT, its just in everyday driving its kinda a PITA.

many ppl have told me to do the 6mt swap but its gonna cost me a lot more than the automatic rebuilding

this

if my accord can keep up with an auto TL-S, the 6MT TL is a kind of a no brainer.

I'd expect the TL to still pull slightly.

Don't downplay the Accord, they are pretty identical to the TL 6MT in straightline performance

Indeed they are and I agree the TL 6 should get an auto TLS with a decent driver. Stock whats the difference in times between a TLS 6 and TL 6, from what I have seen in the past not much at all?

Magazinewise (below links) as well as real world track experience seems to show them both to be effectively dead even:

Thanks for the links F23A4, wow virtually identical. Where is that extra 26hp going as it seems up to 100 they are still virtually identical, must be showing itself well north of speeds over 110 speeds we don't normally don't travel. This what what I always thought and from what I have seen as well. Thanks

From what I have seen even a Stock 8th Gen Accord V6 6MT has posted faster times then a Stock 07-08 TL-S 6MT.

You are correct from the coupe that I have seen run in the past, that car is truly making its power. Heck C/D got one doing 14.2 trapping at 102mph in the 1/4, thats a nice trap speed stock!

On paper, the 8G AV6 6MT would pull something ugly on both 6MT TL variants. LINK

yeah...always....6MT V6 accord is always faster than a stock 07-08 Type S 6MT,cuz lighter.......and i would say a stock 2010+ TSX V6 will faster than a 07-08 Type S 6MT too,cuz lighter

Hardly. The 2010 TSX weighs over 3600 lbs and is auto tragic only. It would be dead even with a stock 3G TL-S 5AT though.

Stock for stock it has put down better times than TLS auto's, so I believe your feeling is correct.

Not really sure why you're rolling eyes. You stated that a 3630 lb 2010 TSX is lighter than a 3559 lb 3G TL-S 6MT which simply isn't true. It may be ~40 lbs lighter than your 5AT TL-S, and if you can feel that 40 lbs, my hat's off to you. Regardless, the TSX isn't going to trap 100 mph stock.

Do it.
C/D pulled off a 99 mph trap, so a 100 mph trap is feasible.
