('05 Base 6MT) Pushing for higher mileage questions.
Car has a great service record from Acura dealers since new. All maintenance was kept up to date, and done preventatively it seems.
Info:
I'm interested in what some good steps are that I can continue to take to hopefully prolong the life of the car past the 200,000+ mile mark...
Since my 105k service was done @ 73k, should I start checking the timing belt around 140k just to be safe or is it fine past that (ie 160k+)? I'd rather be safe than sorry and as the mileage gets higher I start to worry more that things will fail even though it's been nothing but great to me and I've tried to return the treatment, lol..
Thanks ahead of time for the help.
Info:
- Car is a 2005 Base 6MT I bought with 112,000 miles in early 2018.
- Currently sitting just under 126k.
- 105k mile service was done @ 73k by previous owner in mid 2014.
- I have kept up with the maintenance (although not at dealers like previous owners as I try and do what I can myself to save some money) at regular intervals like previous owners had.
- Most recent service(125k miles) i did a full flush and change of all fluids and filters along with brakes, etc. (This helped with the 3rd gear issue I was starting to get.)

I'm a derp and should have looked a bit better before posting. Found this thread with tons of helpful info on high mileage cars right after making my thread.
Sorry.
Sorry.

126,000 miles is nothing if the car has been maintained properly. I'm at 263,000 on my Accord, change the oil every 7500 miles with synthetic, its maybe down 1/4-1/3rd quart after all those miles. Still pulls pretty well.
Whenever you need a clutch (and it may be a while if you don't beat on your car), make sure you change out the clutch slave and master. Timing belt should be fine to 180,000. Engine mounts can be an issue, going to a urethane side mount and replacing all the transmission mounts at the same time seems to have taken care of the torn engine mount issues I was having. I replaced my starter at around 150,000 miles but alternator and radiator are original. Occasionally Honda a/c suffers the black bag of death (the dryer comes apart internally) and all that crap clogs up the system. Sometimes a good flush and new dryer can fix it, sometimes it takes the compressor with it. There is a power steering recall on the high pressure hose so get that done if it hasn't been taken care of already.

This guy at work makes fun of the transmission problems this geration has had. He has a Lexus GS 300 and says it’s a much better car. I think the engine is as good as any but is he right about bonds and bad trans?

Every single manufacturer has "something" they are known for sucking at....Toyota had the sludge issues through the 90s in their V6 engines, GM...well it's GM, their trim/dash quality has never been there....then Ford...well...truthfully I don't know that much about Ford. I just remember the early 2013'ish Escapes were extremely painful and then of course their transmission issues in the Focus.
Is the GS a better car? Who knows and who cares? I'm sure it is a really nice car and I doubt I would be upset if I owned one of those. But I don't...I have a TL and I absolutely love it....still...even after 11 years.

I'm now at 323K, and have done a lot over the last 5 years (as you can see) to keep it going. Regular oil filter changes with synthetic oil and a high-quality filter are absolutely essential
I figure if I continue to maintain the car the way I have, I'll easily get to 400K miles!

You might have missed the point the OP has a 6MT, pretty much a bullet proof transmission.

to OP: 126k is low mileage man.
200k-300k is probably moderate/medium mileage.
I honestly wouldn't even consider these years Honda products "high" mileage until you turn over the 300,000 mile mark.

Agreed, a well maintained Gen 3 TL, especially with a 6MT, is barely broken in with only 126,000 miles on the clock.
