Maintenance Schedule?
Maintenance Schedule?
For people who don't drive 20,000 miles per year, do you follow the time-based maintenance schedule? For example, perform the 10k mile service at 6 months regardless of your mileage, and the 20k mile service at 1 year regardless of mileage?

FYI, many times dealerships try to encourage customers to do far more maintenance than they really need by doing things way too early. For example, they will suggest doing the timing belt every 60k miles instead of every 90k like the manual says; follow their suggestions and you'll pay for two new belts by 130k instead of just one. So be careful and follow your manual AND not what anyone else claims. BTW, many will also claim your need to follow the servere maintenance schedule (and give you some bogus reasons) even if you really should be following the normal schedule.
That makes sense, and what I'm trying to make sure is that I don't do unnecessary maintenance.
The manual lists the service intervals as
10k miles
20k or 1 year
30k
40k or 2 years
etc...
I drive about 10k miles a year, and year 1 is just about up. So... would you do the 10k maintenance, 'cause i'm at 10k, or the 20k/1 year maintenance because I'm at 1 year?

I suppose I should go look the schedule up just to clarify....
(oops, wrong book)I checked. From what I read it looks like your service dept will be excited to see you. You'll need both the 10K and 20K/1Yr. Services.
Yeah, there really isn't anything that needs to be replaced at either the 10k or 20k service point. The 10k service is only an oil change and tire rotation. The 20k is and oil change (including filter), rotate tires, and inspect a whole bunch of stuff.
I expect the dealer will want to charge a bunch for the 20k, though... Oh well, time to start calling around for prices.
