04 TL AT vs Mazda Speed3

Last night I'm driving down the road and noticed some highlights closing in fast and then passing me then makes a quick brake to miss the amber light... I think hmmm seems he may want to run the TL and as I pull up beside him I noticed it a new red Mazada Speed3. I think back and remember reading online they have around 260hp from a turbo 4 cyclinder and 0-60 under 6 seconds if all goes well. But he looks over for the nod to which I thought what the hell... Over to SS I go and VSA off. Light turns green and we take off. I put him at my back door almost immediately and then he falls back to the rear bumper on his shift to 2nd and stays there until I shut it down at the top of second for the win . I know he was starting to catch me and was going to pass me but I had to make a turn so that's all speculation. Yeah I know the car is faster than an auto TL but only if you know how to drive.

Respect buddy. When I clicked on this post I thought, oh no, the tl's gonna lose cause those Speed's are damn fast. But you prevailed, beating him by almost a full car length. Good job man!

He probably didn't launch it to well they're FWD with the same amount of power and a lot less weight.

Isn't there a limiting device that decreases the output of the mazda3 in 1st and 2nd (may be 3rd too?) gear? I wonder if that would help it accelerate faster (less chance of wheelspin) or slower (not enough power)....Also, may be its turbo lag slowed him down. But yea, like you've said, it will definitely catch up sooner or later.

i'm not positive, but I think the limiter still prohibits but much less if the steering wheel is straight

So I was watching motorweek last night and they do a test on the Mazda Speed3... I guess I guy I ran into was a okay driver and the car isn't as fast as what I thought. Here are the test times: 0-60 in 6.4 and 1/4 mile in 14.7 at 97.
