04 TL vs. BMW 550i...

alright, this race is similar to my other recent one posted here...

i was driving down this 3-lane road behind a 550i and he was moving pretty fast for a city street...about 55 or so...he started to slow down, so i passed him, but noticed he had increased his speed to keep up with me...we pull up to the red light and i'm in the left lane, some other car is next to me in the middle lane, and the bimmer is in the right lane...after going through this intersection, the road quickly turns into one lane...even though the 550i isn't right next to me, i know he's gonna try and take me just from the way he started driving after i passed his ass...

so the light finally turns green and i take off...while going through the intersection i look over and see the 550i trying to hang with me and he's got the first inside corner, as the road swirves to the right then back to the left...we get through the intersection and i'm just over one car length ahead of him in second gear around 4000 rpm...he's screwed by this time because i've beaten him to the point where it turns into one lane and all he can do is follow behind me...it must suck to have a car that costs twice what i paid for my TL (which is stock) and lose...i think the guy driving was in his high 30's to low 40's with some other guy in the passenger seat (may have been his son who looked around 18-20)...i hate bmw to begin with so this was one sweet race to win...he must not know how to shift right since those cars have a v8 and almost 100 more horsepower than our car...ah well, he got spanked...

oh yeah, he was definitely trying...maybe when he went to slam on the gas he hit the brake instead, causing him to fall behind...

Indeed, I believe there was a '540i vs TL' thread a while back (TL win). Then recently, a '545i vs TL ' (TL win). Now we have a '550i vs TL' (TL win). So, IBT 'E60 M5 vs TL (TL win)' thread post. (But at least in the last 'M5 vs TL' thread, the poster kept it real .)

a stock 550i will eat a stock 04 TL's lunch. the 6mt tl couldn't hang for long either. the 550i has 360HP and is RWD, it's a beast. I also don't know why anyone would hate BMW's. obviously you haven't driven one to appreciate it. they are very nice cars and handle like no tl can.

ah damn, you know, you guys are right...it is too good to be true because now i remember...it wasn't a 550i, it was a ford taurus....i don't know how i could possibly get those two confused...

and you're right, i've never driven a bmw...but you know what? i've never been to afghanistan either and know that i don't want to go there...i'm basing my opinon off of what everyone has said about their uncomfortable seating and not feeling like you actually have control over the car....not to mention it's the car choice for all snooty pricks out there...

The higher end BMW's are superior cars for those with superior bank accounts. I don't knock people with the means to procure the good things in life. Instead, I give them credit.

Yeah, there are too many daddys girls (high school and college girls) and housewives with those weak 318, 325, 525 and Z2.3 BMW's. Yeah, they basically spent all that money for a badge. In MOST cases, that is snobbery.

Whether your story is true or not, I don't care. At least give the guy credit for stepping it up and getting a 550 as opposed to a 525 or some other bullshit.

I have a friend that stops by my work in his early 30's who has a 2004 M3. He is a Texas Longhorn law school alum, and thus has been able to find find a job that provides him the affluence to buy such a nice car. In other words, he worked his ass off. By the same token, he is one of the most down to earth guys I have ever met. It is incredibly obtuse to suggest that BMW owners are pretentious and that BMW's are inferior cars. He would have bought an Acura, but NO Acura could match his performace demands sans an NSX. However, with two young babies, he didn't want to drop $90k on a car. Enter the M3.

In general Acura is a better value than BMW. People who appreciate that (wealthy or just comfortable) will probably buy an Acura because they can see what a good value it is (especially the TL). These people appreciate Acura's market niche. Others, who demand more, like RWD, will go else where. And why not? They earned it.

Good Job... Anything is possible.. what is 2 seconds really? Slow reaction time... Maybe he spun the tires for a little bit. Who knows... maybe both and doesn't know how to shift. Good job...

very well put...the only bmw i do care for is the M5, but i probably wouldn't buy one if i had the money...i know not all bmw owners are uptight and think they're more superior than others, but the majority i see are...plus, everyone and their unborn baby either drive a lexus, mercedes, or bmw when they want to get a more expensive car and thus keep the domino effect going of unoriginality...it's like they see others buying these cars so they just have to have one too...get yourself an M45 and try to be a little different...that's one thing i like about the TL -- you don't see too many of them on the road (at least in my area) and like one of the members on here put it a while back, it's not one of the cars that has fallen victim to mainstream rappers putting 22's on them and showing it off on cribs...

This is the weirdest thing I've ever read on this forum. Go drive a 550 and you'll see how ignorant you are. The sports seats in 2007 are maybe the best seats on any car available. As to driving check this article:
http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...benz-e550.html

The called it "A flawless driving machine."

BTW do you hate Bently and Ferrari drivers too?

Eh... why does it seem like stories on this section of the forum are getting harder and harder to believe these days... but eh..

Nice kill. Maybe he drove like shit..

Either way:

BMW > Acura in terms of performance if you rate Top Tier Bmw cars vs. top tier Acuras.

BMW > Acura in terms of luxury hands down.

BMW > Acura also in terms of status.

Hmm.. when I graduate Law school, I dont know if I'll go back to an Acura... maybe get one for my wife (if I'm married then) and drive it once in awhile...

BUt for myself.. In a year and a half when I graduate and take the bar, I'll probably get the New IS350 Coupe or the New Audi TT 3.2.

However:

Acura > BMW in terms of reliability - Man.. random ass things in BMW's come loose...

Acura > BMW in terms of value - Resale value on Acura is better, cheaper to maintain an Acura, Performance parts are cheaper for Acura if you want to "fix them up."

Acura > BMW in terms of customer service - god.. I can tell you stories of the bullshit they gave me when I took in my Dad's 2005 M5 for random ass maintenance...

Either way... BMW is a good car and not all BMW drivers are "snooty." My father worked for 40 years running a small store supporting my sister and I through childhood and up through college. During which time he drove a 93 Camry until a year ago... oh, and yeah he bought me and my sister cars when we turned sixteen - a 1996 Prelude SI for me and a 1998 Tacoma for my sis when she hit sixteen a year later.

I think he deserved to get a BMW M5 now that the kids are grown and paying their own way through grad school... don't you think so?

soooo, what was the point of your post besides to take up valuable space on this site...? ...you wanted to quote a few lines from car & driver...great, thanks...funny thing, what did i say up above? get an M45 and be original about it...yeah, and what did car & driver give first place to out of the four cars that article mentions? you're damn right...and thanks for the verdict quote, i could care less they called it a flawless machine...while we're quoting what someone else has said about cars, let's see what they said about the M45...

so let's see, the M45 is cheaper and awarded first place?

and when did i say i hated bmw DRIVERS...? damn man, read before you post...or just don't post at all if you're just going to copy and paste text off of another site...no, i don't hate bentleys and ferraris...i've seen a few of them around here...but show me an aston martin vanquish and i'll be surprised...

okay, thanks for the comparison between bmw and acura...i could of googled that if i cared about it...and let me show the only comparison that mattered in this situation:

bmw > acura in terms of price -- his car costs more than twice mine and he lost...

of course a 550i should kick a TL's ass -- they paid twice more for it...if it didn't perform better, i don't think bmw would be making it...

and why are you all pissed off/irritated/annoyed/etc. because of what i posted...? i posted a racing experience i recently went through, no bullshit....you think i'm gonna post some made-up story on here? yeah, i've got a life that doesn't include fictional stories for acurazine...damn, i posted the article about crushing that beetle so now i'm posting this one...get over it...spec-wise, yeah, i should have had my ass handed to me, but that wasn't the case...life goes on...and this isn't just towards you, it's towards all the other fawkin' haters that think i give a damn about how the 550 is better than the TL...and i responed way earlier about how i know not all bmw drivers are snooty...like i mentioned above, read before you post...that's a nice story man, but has nothing to do with this topic...i don't get why the majority of you feel you have something important to say when really it's just a waste of space...

i beat a 550i...true story, no bullshit...i could beat a ferrari if the driver held down the brake the entire time and you still wouldn't believe me...sorry, i couldn't snap a picture for you all while i was driving, but you'll have to make do...close this damn topic before 20 more people feel they need to tell me how the 550 makes them wet their pants...

Bro, lol I wasn't pissed off/irritated/annoyed with you; I only said it was hard to believe and I did say nice kill and chances are he did drive like shit.

If anything, I think its kind of annoying that you think that people's opinion on this forum are a waste of space. If you post something on a forum, you're inviting comments/opinions/criticisms/flames.

Not on topic?

You made a general comment about BMW drivers and a few of us rebutted it. I posted mine to show one example of how a BMW driver isn't a snooty prick.

You said you beat a 550 and the majority of the people who browse this forum are avid car enthusiasts. If we read something that doesn't sound right, then we post our opinions.

Relax man, no one hates you. Learn to take the forum opinions and not let it bother you.

Good luck on future races, keep reppin the TL.

Here, like SergeyM, you are using what others say, not your own experience to make an evaluation. If you are going to bash him for quoting others to make a point you can't use your friends opinions to form you own conclusion.

No. I used to own a 2002 type S and 2004 TL and now drive a 2007 550. I know the difference. I caled your ignorant because of remarks you made about BMW cars:
"uncomfortable seating and not feeling like you actually have control over the car"

Once again 5-series have one of the best seats in any car available and when it comes to driving they are the ultimate driving machines. If you have to buy a sedan nothing beats a BMW.

When I took that spin in the 545i, it seems as though the seats were designed to be adjustable to just about any body type. Sidenote: Prior to driving the 545i, I really thought this 'ultimate driving machine' mantra was just a lot of hot air; afterwards, I came away a believer.

MODERATOR'S NOTE: While it is definitely probable for a well driven TL to take down a "poorly" driven 550i, I think it is obviously important to note that this will have more to do with the drivers than the vehicles themselves. As I have indicated in the 545i thread (and is more applicable with the 550i), the E60 V8s are on a much higher performance level than the Acura TL. While I may give Rimz a for the kill, it will be concurrent with a to the 550i driver.

that's what i've been saying the entire time...i beat a 550i, but like i said way up above, he probably slammed on the brake or something instead of the gas, causing him to drag behind...believe me, i know a 550i will kill a TL any day if driven properly...maybe this guy driving the 550i should go back and drive a sentra instead since he's giving the bimmer a bad rep...

and sergeyM, you quoted TLsu, but yet you refer to lines i said... :troutslap

i believe everyone has stated their opinion on this topic, so before it spirals out of control....

Lee, go ahead and open it back up if you'd like, but my experience is that things will just get worse from here.
