ok in the next month or 2 i plan on getting a TL for that year. i found some with some really low miles for a good price but i want to know has there been any kind of problems with that year.

i heard a while back they had some tranny problems but i dont know if its true or not any help

also any body on here got a stereo installed in there TL like changed the HU and everything else. b.c i plan on doing so if possible!

i think the only difference is that the 05 has tire pressure monitors. wish i had those.

 

i didn't thought 05 had pressure sensor?
but i heard many earlier 04 tl have rattle problems...

 

if you do get a 04 make sure you check the vin and see if it falls under the recall the had for 04

 

TPMS started in '06.

xxjustimajinxx, regarding your aftermarket head unit question, head on over to the Audio, Bluetooth, Electronics & Navigation subforum. There is a current thread with the same question.

 

Just make sure you look for a late 04 Build - that's exactly what i did - mine was 9/04 build date - i would say anything 6/04 or later and you should be fine - those ones were not effected by the Tranny recall - they got the same as the 05's. Also during the late "04 build times, '05's were also being sold.

 

I have an '04 with an early build date (VIN < 20,000). It rattles like a 10 year old Pontiac. This doesn't really bother me, just letting you know. No other problems.

 

Make them check for the sagging headliner, make sure the 3rd brake light is tightly on the window and that the mirror doesn't shake when driving, if it does, there is a TSB for that. As for the rattles, it is a characteristic of the TL and TSX.

 

my wife and i bought our 2004 TL in may 2006 with 46,000 miles on it...here are the problems we've run into...

-wiper motor assembly stopped working

-car wouldn't lock via keyfob or pushing button in car; had to use key in door (took 3 times and they finally replaced the ECU, which fixed the problem)

-while working on my door lock problem, they noticed the memory seat wasn't remembering the settings -- the ECU also fixed this issue at the same time

-wheel sensor for VSA went bad

everything i've mentioned was covered under warranty...there's also minor rattling, but it's not real noticeable...the last 5 digits in my VIN are 12856, so i assume mine is an earlier build, though i haven't had any tranny problems (the previous owner may have taken care of that)...

anything i've had to take the TL in for has been for little reasons...no engine or performance problems...even after all the little things, this is still the most perfect car i've been in, let alone drive...
