I've heard that you can get a cheap one that will only be able to unlock the doors, but how much does it cost to get a spare that will start the car? Gah, this is somehting I didn't realize until after purchasing

a locksmith MIGHT be able to also to get it to work, but not likely though, very hard to get the "security" info from a manufacture
and personally for my 2g TL, it was only like $20 from the dealer (WITH the key AND being cut), i was expecting something like $50
(but then again they did just copy the original key's "id" onto the new one, but it works so i don't really care how they exactly did it though

check with the dealer as to how much they charge but I was able to:
1) buy a blank key
2) have it cut anywhere (I went to Lowes), this will now allow you to open doors
3) go to an Acura/Honda dealer and see if they will program it, it takes like 5 min. I was lucky and they did it for free.

Here's what I did, made good with the parts guy and a guy that will do side work. I paid $120 total for 2 keys and all 3 reprogrammed. Bought the keys there too! Buy two blanks, give them a vin and they will cut it, then the parts guy gives it to you, you have to get a service guy to do it, takes 5-10 minutes, it's a computer with Honda software that plugs into your obd II plug, it involves putting the key in turning it to on/off a few times and so forth. But whatever you do don't buy the ebay knock offs because I bought two and the dealer cut it, didn't come out like oem so therefore it wouldn't fit nor open the door.

i just done this couple months ago with my 05.
1. get two blanket keys from ebay for $16 (make sure it has the chips and fit the car)
2. bring the blank to the dealer and they will cut and program for you for around $60 (cut and program up to three keys for the same price)
