Cool '04 TL Maintenance

Hey, it's been a while since i was here, probably attributed to the great car we've got. ('04 TL NBP) What is the story with the Maintenance Minder? I've had all of the Maintenance done at the Acura dealer,as I got 2 years or 24K miles free with the sale of the car. (Everyone should ask and get the 2 Yr/24K deal)

I had the tires replaced by Acura at 10K, under warranty. All oil changes are done at about 3K miles.

Only once had the minder appeared since buying the car, for A1, but nothing since. I make Acura change the oil every 3K.

I've got the manual in front of me as I post.

I guess that as owners, we are just supposed to allow the minder to appear? Any recommendation to tire rotation, the manual indicates that the minder will indicate tire rotation as well, that seems a bit odd to me. I thought we should rotate the tires every 7500 miles. Thoughts by my esteemed fellow Acura owners is appreciated.

I've wondered about this too. But all I've been hearing is to follow the MID. I don't mind doing that. Saves me time of getting my oil changed and other service needs. I can notice performance dullness when my oil gets to be 20%. So i ususally wait until the MID prompts me at 15%.

Tire Rotation: for brand new tires, I rotate them at 5K and after that every 10K. I use the same interval on my Mustang (that has been through 5 sets of tires). But when i notice unusual tire wear, i get an alignment and then a rotation.

The only way I would go by the maintanance minder is if I am using Mobil 1(which I plan on doing so I can trust the car). With standard motor oil I, and most others, would recomend not to follow the minder but rather the 3k rule.

Ooh Rah!

I usually change my oil at around 5,000 miles (or before if the MID suggests so).... Tires rotated every 5,000 as well. With all of the new oil additives and refinements, it is fruitless to change oil before 5,000 unless you are doing some serious drag racing.
