04 TL here: maintenance
OK i drive a 04 satin silver auto 3rd gen TL, and Im at 34500 miles. To keep the car in tip top shape I had the following done.
1) Changed the filter for my Injen CAI, that sucker was warped..
2) I've kept up with my oil changes every 2k miles with 5w 20 castrol oil
3) drained, not flushed, and refilled with honda automatic transmission fluid (3 quarts)
4) changed the cabin air filter, people forget about this...change it at 30k~~
ok, so heres a couple questions....
1) do I need to flush the automatic transmission fluid, and refill? I was told flushing would be much better, but is it necessary? and if I just drain, how long till I need to drain, and refill again?
2) what oil do you guys use? Is it too late to go synthetic?
3) am I missing anything? what else do I need to do?
** oh yea I got gunmetal 19x8.5 +34 offset volk sf-challenges coming in soon, I'll have em on by the end of July or early august....I know it takes a while, but I'll have pics up asap...I don't want to show pics w/o em....anyways im drifting away from my point...if I get the tein s-tech springs, do I need cambers/struts? I think they lower the car 1.3" in the back, 1.2" in the front, and im going with 245/35/19 tires....thats alot of questions...feel free to answer them all in one post

1) If you were to "flush" your transmission, the correct procedure would be to drain and refill the unit three times, driving 10-15 miles between each drain and refill. Honda ATF-Z1 will provide sufficient anti-wear protection for 100K, but during this long drain interval, shift quality will suffer. If you wish to obtain optimal shift quality, it would be a good practice to drain and refill the unit, once, at least every 30,000 miles. Doing three drain and refills would be even better for restoring good shift quality, but would have a minimal effect on the overall longevity of the unit. You should consider upgrading to Amsoil ATF, as it's a full synthetic fluid that will resist oxidation better than Honda's fluid, and will last longer and retain its "shift feel" a bit longer. Cost? $75/10 quarts including shipping.
2) Not too late at all. However, conventional oils can last at least 5000 miles with minimal buildup, so I'd stick to your favorite 5w-20 oil and increase the oil drains to at least 5000 miles.
3) I'd change your power steering fluid and bleed/flush your brake fluid.
