'04 TL 11-13K? Is it worth it?
Just saw a 2004 TL for sale. Gold. 49K miles. Dented hood (looks like someone sat on it). Driver's quarter panel dinged. Rear bumper seems to have been hit (two paint chips). Front bumper seems to have been repainted (overspray on headlight). 3 of 4 rims have curb rash. NYC car. Owner wants 13K. Neighbor says owner will take 11K. Is it worth it? What else should I check? Thanks in advance.

Based on your description of the exterior, I think I would steer clear. In my opinion, damage to the exterior is a sign of neglect and neglect carries over to the drivetrain, etc. The other thing to look out for is that the 04's and early 05's had some transmission issues.
Not a bad idea to see if you can find out how the transmission is behaving if you are thinking of proceeding; maybe see if you can take it to a dealer or trusted mechanic to have it inspected and see what they think...just some thoughts.

Safety Car
The paint chips could just be normal wear and tear, but the other stuff you mentioned leads me to believe the owner treated the car like crap.
Minor bumper damage is normal, but the fact that he had it repainted indicates to me that it was in a bad accident and on top of that, the over spray obviously indicates a piss poor paint job meaning he didn't care how it looked. Road rash on the rims indicate he constantly dogged the car out and further raising my suspicion that he didn't care about the car enough to get them fixed eventually. I can understand being not getting every single paint chip fixed, but road rash most of the time can be easily repaired yet for some reason he didn't think it was important.
If there are all these problems on the exterior there is no telling what wrong with internal stuff. A 5 year old year with only 49K miles is less than 10K/year, yet this car seems to have had a very hard life. I say no deal.
