I have a friend who has a 2004 RX-8 with the 4 speed-AT transmission (auto). It has no modifications and i was wondering if my stock 2002 TL Type-S could take it. I'm thinking it can because there is only a 600lb weight difference between the cars and the TL has almost 50 more aspirated HP. The only thing i'm worried about is the drive train difference. Him being RWD and I being FWD. What do you guys think?

rx8 automatics are slower than shit. I believe 0-60 in 9.3 seconds or around there. it has 197hp and is the slowest production sports car right now. the MT is mucher quicker, I have seen 0-60 times anywhere from the claimed 0-60 in 5.9 from Mazda to 0-60 in 6.7 on carstats.com. You should challenge your friend just for shits and jiggles so you can see his face after you destroy him.

 

Tru, my brothers old RX-8 was MT and was pretty quick. I was in front of him on a red light, and we both gunned it, my first 2 gears were strong and was in the lead untill he didnt switch lanes and shift his gears, then I died..

 

U can take him on the straight.no doubt.But,canyon driving no question about that.The rx-8 is better that g35 coupe/350z on the slalom/canyon run.I bet it can be outperform by TSX.

 

your car will DESTROY a stock RX-8 automatic. There is no debate on this.
