'04-'06 slower?
So I played with an 04-06 TL tonight. And I got him by about 1.5 car lengths twice by the top of 2 nd gear. First time he was in front if me and I actually went out around him. His car was an 04-06 and sounded stock. Mine is an 07 with takeda cold air intake. I didn't think my cai would have made that big of a difference. Or maybe his car was just busted.

It could be a lot of different things.
- he's normally drives at that speed and you just happened to go faster
- he didn't know that he was in a mini race
- he let you pass because you appeared to be going somewhere in a hurry
- he had to take a piss really badly and he accidentally relieved himself, causing him to slow down
please tell me that you didn't flash your hazards after you "beat" him...

Well, he's technically not wrong. The Japanese have always had a tendency to be a little "optimistic" with their power ratings, whether it be Honda, Toyota, Nissan. Now, with the revised, stricter SAE standards, they can't really do that any longer. The Germans completely the opposite; they usually grossly underrate their powertrains. The old adage, "German horses have always been stronger than Japanese ponies" carries serious merit.

Bolted 2nd gen 3.2's are faster than bolted 3rd gens. Headers make a big difference.

No, the 3.2 A2 was rated at 260 under the old standards, where as the 3.2 A3 was rated 270 under the same standards. The 02-'03 Type-S would have been rated around 247-248 if it were made post 2006. 2G Type-S's had trouble cracking 200 whp stock.

So subtract 10 off the top. Your still at +15-20 hp that the cast manifold heads cannot obtain.

At the end of the day, a FBO 2G Type-S and a FBO 5AT 3G base are going to be pretty close numbers wise. The PCD's make up a good portion of that 15-20 hp. Stock to stock, I've heard the 2G might be a hair quicker due to not having DBW, but regardless, they're still both crippled by their transmissions. The 6MT swapped 2G's are decently quick.
