I was at crest acura today and they had the kinetic blue and silver TL-S's in the lot and it occurred to me (or so i think) that the 07 TL-S has a slightly bigger, sharper deck lid spoiler..

Does anyone have close up's of their 04-06 FACTORY lip spoiler? I have posted the 07 TL-S spoiler pictures here.. I want to compare the sizes cause the TL-S spoiler seems much more sharp, attractive and appealing to me. It also seems as if the TL-S spoiler "wraps and curves" around the counters of the tip of the trunk better than the 04-06 FACTORY lip spoiler. I posted lots of pictures of just the spoiler since you guys are avid picture whores

P.S. I have a shitload of pictures of the kinetic blue TL-S and the silver one.. at least like 40 HAHA so if you guys want i'll post more.

blue is def. a color I would get for the type s. however IMO, the lip spoiler looks the same.

I'll try and take a picture of mine in the AM. I saw a Type S at the Manassas" Meet yesterday. It does look beefier.

I went to my local Acura dealership to check out the Type S trunk lid spoiler. Unfortunately the didn't have the 07 TL type S yet. I asked the parts guys about the Type S spoiler. I told them I was thinking about putting one on my 06 TL. They brought it up on the computer. A tech was there and he looked at it too. It looks like it mounts differently then the 04-06 lip spoiler. The tech said it mounts like the TSX spoiler. They brought out a TSX spoiler for me to look at. It does not appear to use any two sided tape. A series of holes have to be drilled in the trunk for mounting. The two outside holes are for threaded studs attached to the spoiler and nuts screw on to them inside the trunk. The remaining holes are for plastic studs on the spoiler which go through the trunk and use fasteners or clips inside the trunk to secure. The tech said he'd done the TSX spoiler and it wasn't hard, just had to be careful with the drilling of all the holes in the trunk for proper fit and alignment. They checked the color for me and it is available in my color Alabaster Silver Metallic. Price they quoted me was $162 plus the cost of a few fasteners and clips. Dealer installation was quoted at $160. I was tempted to order but I want to see it on the TL type S before I make my final decision.

You should've snagged one for that price ($162). The lip spoilers for the 04-06 3G is 2x more than that....... IMO, unless Acura changed the dimensions of the trunk lid, it should fit as they haven't done any refinements to that area..

You're probably right but I hate to buy it without seeing it on the car. Anyway, they said that $162 is the regular price in the computer so I can order it anytime at that price. It can be ordered in all 07 TL type S colors. The Alabaster Silver Metallic used on my 06 TL is one of those colors.

$162 for a factory spoiler is pretty good IMO. Anyone else seeing this price?

Good thread BTW. I almost picked up a lip spoiler and then I read gossip about the Type-S lip spoiler.

A few members and I dropped by a dealership in San Diego over the weekend. They had a WDP Type-S parked in front. The spoiler is definitely beefier: wider and extends higher upwards. Theres less curvature than the pre-Type S.

I was going to jump on an 04-06 ebay spoiler until a threat mentioned the 07 might have a different look.

On Honda Service Express, with an Acura subscription, under the Parts tab, the 07 TL Type-S Spoiler is around $162. The only problem I see, like the tech said, is accurately drill the five holes into the trunk. I doubt if a template comes with the replacement spoiler; maybe the Acura Service has something only they can get or they have made one their own.

I believe you can get an "Accessory Part" Lip Spoiler (the instructions for an '07 TL were also on the Service Express website) but it looked and mounted (bolts and tape) like the 04-06 spoiler, so I'm assuming it is the smaller 04-06 spoiler at the $300+ cost, just in the '07 colors.

The thought of drilling five holes in my trunk lid doesn't sit well with me. Multiple holes means more chances for leaks and rust. Maybe someone will come up with a mod to install the Type S spoiler without all the holes. I read on the RL forum one guy put the 05-06 factory lip spoiler on his 05 RL without drilling the holes. He removed the studs and used the double sided tape. He said it fit fine and was very secure.

I think I'll wait for now, maybe some aftermarket company will copy the Type S spoiler.

Spoiler is just slightly different...mm of difference height/width, it seems to wrap that edge a little better. I don't see the big deal.

Those who want to retrofit shouldn't have a problem, I'm so sure they will fit the 04-06 trunks, nothing has seemed to change.

I don't regret getting my lip with the old design 2 months ago, it came painted and I just smacked it on with the ds tape. Cost me just $115. Anthracite isn't an 07 color anymore.

I was thinking of getting the 07 TL-S deck lip. But I feel the same about drilling holes in my decklid, not to fond of the idea. Like Ernie Golfs said why dosen't someone order it and just cut the studs off and doudle side tape it to the lid?

I'm not feeling the idea of drilling holes either. Now I'm waiting to see if any sellers on eBay (trimking1) will start selling the aftermarket versions that don't require drilling.

Anyone know how long it took for aftermarket '04-'06 lip spoilers to appear on eBay?

I'm not that worried about drilling the holes. I put a spoiler on my old Mustang and had to drill holes, it didn't leak at all.
Plus I think the wing spoiler for our car is mounted by drilling holes.Correct me if I'm wrong but I can't see that being held on with 3m tape.

I like the 06 lip better...it seems to form the contour of the TL's trunk. The type s' seems a bit larger that it doesnt show its "luxury" side.

I just did my spoiler i got the type s one. Its bigger than the 400$$ one that came out for the 05 models. the color silver is pretty much the same.... i drilled the holes without a template I used masking tape silicone and a drill with unitbits took me 30 mins to do an acurate masking/drilling and install

It hasn't been done yet, but KJSmitty said he'll try it out in this more recent thread: I have installed a type-S spoiler on my 05 TL (see page 5)

it won't work at all, may be a little bit but when driving the lid will fly off unless someone uses silicon; however, if u guys buy the sorona lid spoiler then u can just use 3m tape instead of drilling holes... i tried to use 3m tape before but it didn't work so well so i decided to drill holes in order to make lid more stable...

It's funny how all this talk about 3M tape not being able to hold on the Type S spoiler securely and a high possibility to fall off... I had a lip spoiler on my 05 Mazda 3 installed with 3M tape and it was on there really strong for the 4 years that I had it for.

This thread is 6 years old... The cheapest you will find a new type-s spoiler for now is $510
