03Type-S vs 04 TL

Ok, so im out in the open roads in Nassau playing around with the sport shift attempting to see if I can actually get better gas mileage by shifting myself. I pull up to this 3rd Gen TL with an older man (Porb 50+) and what seems to be his wife in the passenger seat. He looks at me and puts both hands on the steering wheel lol. So I look back and give him one of these lol. Usually I save all this testosterone brewing for when I encounter a Maxima but this looked like a pretty interesting matchup. Especially since we were both stock. The light turns green and we both take off!! Im guessing he didnt know how to use sportshift, since both his hands never left the steering wheel. We were pretty even thru 1st but as I changed to 2nd I actually started to pull away! By the time I hit 3rd gear he was by my rear passenger door. I hit about 80mph before I decided to slow down. The road was empty but I didnt want to push my luck. I pull to the left cuz my turn off is approaching and watch him fly by

First of all, Good Race.... i remember racing a 3G TL , donno wat year it was. it was in Brooklyn right after you take the Exit 11N on Beltpkwy. This 3G TL was like tailgating me.. I was dropping my Girlfriend's 2 cute friends home .. .. So i thought to hit it and make this girl grab me while im racing this 3G , he changed the lane to the right and was close to the back door of my car But never passed my Car. May be he also didnt know how to use triptonic... So i recieved a nice smile from my gf's friend when she opened the door to leave and yeah it was a cool race and i felt good to beat a 3G from 2G

tl-s is equal to 3G 5AT TL 0-60 and 1/4. it's a straight up drivers race.

yes a little more power which is not noticeable. I have driven both the tl-s and a 04 5AT 3G TL and while the tl-s feels faster because of the absence of the DBW throttle it wasn't, but it was just as fast and the stats say the same. now the new tl-s coming out will waste any stock tl ever made.

what the hell does that mean? Do YOU see a drastic difference here???

03Type-s = 260hp @6100RPM
04 TL = 270 @ 6200RPM
06& up = 258 @ 6200RPM

Looks pretty even to me. The better driver takes it, period.

....how about running him/them at the track instead. LINK They will even give you time slips for your effort.

MODERATOR'S NOTE: While occassional street encounters do occur, they should be rather spontaneous in nature and NOT prearranged. I do NOT want to see propositions for a street race on this forum. The last thing I or anyone else need to read about are two racing TLs colliding with some innocent motorist or pedestrian.

It is definitely a drivers race. Do you know how many times this has been done? In most cases, the Type-S does edge out the 3rd gen by a half of a CL. I think we've accounted this to more aggressive gearing, and the drive-by-wire throttle of the 3rd gen. Correct?

No I don't see a drastic increase I never said that. I simply stated we (3G TLs) have more power than the 03 Type S. You even quoted the HP ratings. Altough quoting the 06 and up 258 doesn't apply b/c your Type S didn't get the new SAE Ratings.

I agree on paper it looks "pretty" even but what how is the better drive going to take it? If both cars are auto then its pretty hard to screw up flooring the gas and holding it there. A 04+ 6MT TL would kill a Type S hands down.

I still think it would be an interesting match up. My brother in law has a 3G TL. I think I could take him.
Let me throw my icebox and pulley on and I'd be set.

You missed my point. Just because a car has more horsepower doesnt necessarily mean the car is faster. Alot more is involved than just adding an extra 10 horses Look it up, we have VERY identical stock quarter mile times. So logically speaking we can both slam the accelerator to the ground and expect either of the two gen's (or which ever one is in better condition, maintanence, mileage etc) to win!

now this is based on the old SAE ratings, the 3rd gen had 10 more HP, but weignt is a factor, along with the driver. Also if you both had VSA off, that would help alot more in making it even.

I do believe anything can happen in a race. I did test drive a 2 different Type S TLs and one wasn't that fast at all and the other one I tested out spun its tires from a low speed kick down and pushed me in my seat.

When I drove the 3G TL it didn't have that inital kick like the Type S but I did seem to get to speed faster once it got to its VTEC powerband

Ehh, like I said, it basically comes down to what condition your car is in. We could argue forever if the cars are modified but stock vs stock its pretty much the same, it just feels different (Havin driven both I can tell you that for a fact). Yea, the 3rd gen has more power but weight, torque and reaction time are very important, especially when the cars are so identical in performance. But im sure most of us here already know that.
