Agreed.

Any Altima V6 with an MT would prove to be a drivers race with a 6MT TL. Even some of the newer 5AT Altima's will give a good run for the 6MT TL.

Stock-for-stock, mod-for-mod, and driver-for-driver Altima/TL would be a great race in both trims!

Lee, is Stephen going back to the track anytime soon? It'd be neat to get a video of us heads up at the track. I'm sure it'd be a great run! Does he have any new track times?

Many of the 07+ 4th gen MT altimas (newer intake manifold) trap 99-101 mph due to a much improved topend. I'd think the 02-06 Altimas would be the best match for a 3rd gen TL MT.

Thats what I have found out also. There is a guy on the nissan club forums named JKgultimate. He ran a 14.2@100MPH in his 07 Altima Sedan 6mt SE all stock. He is much quicker now with his mods and Drag radials. His best is a 13.3@105MPH i believe.

Yes, he's going to secure some R compounds (or even slicks) before returning as he's still having issues off the line. Having driven his Altima myself, I'd approximate that it should be good for 13.7-13.8 sec at 101-102mph but, that's just my conservative guess.

Give him a ring on his cell and check in with him. PM me if you need his #.

True, but the 4th gen is still a good match. My buddy had an 08 6MT with I/E/Ypipe/Tune and I ran with him without my PCDs. I actually pulled on him about 1-1.5 cars, yet he is heavier than me and had a passenger. And that was before his tune. With his tune, without the passenger, and my PCDs it probably would've been a heads up race.

He has since sold it though and is moving on to a Red 370z 6MT!! I will definitely have a vid of me and him going at it when he gets it next month

I actually think it's going to be relatively close. I don't think he'll pull me by more than 2 cars after my 3" exhaust

But we'll see...lol. Could be a case of wishful thinking

Yeah wishful thinking on your part unfortunately......lol. Unless he messes up some shifts you are toast, my Z pulls hard throughout the powerband.

And I got that time in my signature when I had 5,000 miles on it and now it pulls a bit stronger with 14,500 miles (VQ's get much stronger with miles)!

True, true. I still think it'll be a drivers race with the obvious advantage to the 370. I should be trapping around 104 with my current mods, so it could be rather close.

The time in my sig is when I had I/Jpipe and a 2.249 60'. I now have exhaust (soon to be 3"), PCDs, and a ported intake manifold...pulls much harder. Maybe I'll sneak the UR pulley in there when he's not looking

Like you said, VQs pull harder with more miles, and he's getting it with 0. I may have a chance then! lol.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I used to pull on my cousins old 02? Nissan Altima 3.5 SE V6 with the 4-speed auto in my old TL-S all the time. We would be close till 3rd gear, but that's when I would walk away from him. Regardless of what is said here, the 02-03 TL-S have a particular advantage over the 4-speed auto in 3rd gear (which is relatively strong in the 2g TL-S).

Oh, I got an 09 G37x 7-speed loaner for my vette and I caught a quick video of it with my cell. It was pretty quick for a sedan (not any competition for my Vette, but still quick for a sedan). The 7-speed auto really helps that car.

Funny how we all have different experiences with these cars....., 3rd gear is ok in the 4spd auto correct. But 4th gear in TL auto is a dog and 4th in the 4spd auto 3.5's is strong, its pretty much a give or take. Each has there strengths and put down similiar numbers.

I'm referring to the 4spd auto in 02-04 Altima's per 2k2's comment.

I have found a similar experience. I have raced my friends 02 Nissan Altima SE 4AT in my Accord V6 5AT. I had only raced him when I just had intake but through 1st gear my front bumper was at his passenger door handle but once I hit second gear I would start to pull back and by 80MPH or so I had a full car length on him.

My experiences have been the opposite, I had them by a car when I get into third they get closer, but when they get into 4th I start pulling again. 3rd is our weakest gear and 4th is definatley the TL's/ AV6's as you drop way way out of your powerband (been there done that with my wifes old 02 TL's and my 07 TLS which I lemon lawed).

The AV6 5AT actually has different ratios for 4th and 5th gear compared to the TL and TL-S 5AT. My 4th gear pulls pretty hard and from the 3rd to 4th shift my revs drop to about 4600RPM at full throttle which is right about at my peak torque. It definantly doesn't fall flat on its face like the TL and TL-S does though.

Didnt know that, good to know. I know that our old 02 TLS and 07 TLS totally dropped off time it went into 4th, it was like they were totally different cars.

I looked it up and the accord V6 5AT 4th gear is 9% shorter than the TL and TL-S 4th gear! Thats a huge difference. Too bad Honda didn't do that for the TL and TL-S.
