02 TL-S vs 01 BMW 330Ci - who would win?

I have headers on my car and the other guy only has intake. We are both auto, so who do you guys think would win?

would this be a close race?

The guy is pretty cocky and keeps saying he'll race for pink slips, and I don't wanna lose my car but at the same time would like to add a 330ci to my collection, lol

It will be close.Best is to do it from a roll, and keep it under 100mph because you don't want to hit 4th gear in your car.

why don't I wanna hit 4th gear? isn't that when the headers come into play?

hmm, when you are at 7000rpm in 3rd gear, you are going at about 100-110mph. Then as soon as you hit 4th gear, you will land at below 5000rpm, somewhere like 4750rpm if I recall correctly. You are out of the VTEC zone and the 4th gear is already an overdrive gear. I think the headers would help, but I still think it's kinda risky.

so my best bet is roll from 20-30 in 2nd gear, and go all the way up in 3rd

should I use SS mode or just gate shift?

if you are at 20-30mph, put it in 1st gear and gate shift from there. When you gate shift from 1st to 2nd gear, there's a slight delay before the transmission reacts. So you must time your shift so that the engine will hit redline before it shifts to 2nd, but without hitting the rev limiter. Practice several times beforehand is a good idea. And do the same when you shift from 2nd to 3rd gear, but this time it's easier because the rev won't climb up as fast in 2nd gear than in 1st gear.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread- but my friend (2002 330ci) and I raced (02 TL-S) and he won.

It was very close, but he took off the line really quick, and I was just spinning out... He beat me by half a car length.

When I had my TL-S, I inched away from my friend who had a 330ci 5-speed manual (and he was a very good driver). The manuals are a good bit quicker than the auto 330's.

The 02-03 TL-S is faster than an e46 330 auto. No doubt about it. And if you have headers, I would race for pink slips as he wants...haha

Yea u should take him with your type-s ecpesially that u got headers and his is an auto (and stock im assuming). just try to do a roll. even though u can take him from a dig unless you spin like crazy off the line.

You should have won if your car is running well.

haha, i know it's bothered me ever since - on paper i have more horsepower to weight ratio (WAY more), faster 0-60 time, etc...

I was spinning quite a bit, but that's when he got like half a car length in front of me, after that we just stayed evenly matched... I definitely wanna try again, but since then, I matured a bit and don't wanna get caught or risk anything bad happening...

Hopefully we can prove it on the official drag strip in Englishtown this summer - smooth patch with no pebbles...

But for the record, at the time we just did it last minute - found a strip around warehouses and all, so it was completely empty. Just our two cars. I didn't even checked my tire pressure, needed an oil change, running on old spark plugs, etc.

It will be very close. I'd watch out running for slips, that's just silly in my book. God forbid something happened you lose your car. There is no "oh wait, let's go again" when you are racing for slips.

Add an intake and you should definitely take him.

No, I'm completely against street racing now - I actually only officially raced once, and never again. It was just a dumb thing I did in the past. There's been too many terrible things happening lately with this street racing stuff (mostly young kids in 4-bangers).

DON'T race in the streets - risks aren't worth the thrill.

If I'll ever do it again, I'll take it to an official strip, sign-up sheets and all legal documents. Nice and safe and all for ~$50. And it'll be documented... so we shall see...

BTW, i thought pink slips only happen in the movies? lol
