02 Grand Prix vs. TL 3.2

Some kid from school wanted to race me in his Grand Prix. Apparently he had a 2002 3.8liter. Modded with an intake he made and exhaust. I've just got a 2001 TL 3.2 Stock, so a bunch of people were anticipating a good race. I'm kinda new to racing but wahtever. We met up Friday night and hit up the streets fast. Once the light turned green I just gunned it and he got up on me little by little. And as we're going down the road we're neck and neck basically but he somehow pulls gradually ahead. So the front of my car is at his ass at around 90mph. My car has a higher RPM than the grand prix so i'm catching up around to his front doors and a truck pulls in front of us about 100 yards out. i didn't see it but my buddy in the passenger sees it and screams at me to stop and luckily we both missed it. And we tried to race again that night but cars were everywhere. and cops came by too so yeah...

I'm guessing it was a GT. Not bad. They have a decent amount of torque and torque will get ya every time.

GT is 200HP and 215tq gtp is 240HP and 280tq. GT w/I/E would lose to a stock TL-P IMO, a stock gtp vs. stock tl-p would be very close, GTP with I/E would beat a tl-p convincingly IMO. I think he had GTP sounds like his intake he made probably isn't giving him much power. still you have an acura and he has a pontiac.

GTP vs. TL-P close? GT w/ I/E lose to a stock P? Keep dreaming, man.

GTP will walk all over the P, and give a close run to a Type-S. A GT with I/E would also walk a P. One of my friends has a stock GTP and they are quicker than the numbers suggest. Another friend's GTP ran mid-12's all day on street tires, so let's not even get started on that one. Another friend's stock GT has some pretty decent pick-up, too.

TL-P would fair better against a GT, and the TL-S would be a better match for the GTP. That's how it is.

so one of your friend's stock GTP's was running mid 12's? I don't believe that at all. He must of had some serious mod's to be running close to 12's.

I dont think he meant stock; one friend has a stock GTP while the other has one that runs 12s.

That said, I've seen several modded Regal GS and GP GTP's running low 13s-upper 12s at Etown.

No, it wasn't stock. I said one friend's stock GTP was quick, and another friend's GTP ran 12's. I didn't think I had to specify that a GTP running 12's is obviously not stock.

right not stock, but I was more curious to what mods he had to be running that low. I had no idea those cars where that fast. I am assuming, full exhaust, intake, pulley, SC upgrade, etc.

XP cams, intake, smaller supercharger pulley, and a couple of other things I can't remember right now. It wasn't heavily modified, by any means. For God's sake, he was still running the stock exhaust.

You must not know about the 3.8 SC.

They're running 10.0's, waiting to break the 9 barrier.

They take very little to run solid 13's, and a few healthy mods and they run 12's with ease.

YES EASE.

Stock to stock they can be beat, but once the modding begins, forget about it.

Oh, no. More than just a grand, but not a ridiculous figure, either.

No time slips or pictures. I guess you'll just have to take my word for it. It's the same friend with the Magnacharger-equipped Silverado SS that ran 12.83 in the quarter.

You sound familiar with Grand Prix's. Have you heard of Zoomer's car? I believe he's the Michigan chapter president of the Club GP? He's got the turbocharged maroon one. I saw it at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex earlier this year. I can't remember what he ran, but it was fucking sick. If I had to guess, I would say he was running 10's that day, but I'm not sure.

WOW! I don't know Grand Prix at all then. I had no idea those things could be turned into such beasts with a little money. From what I've read the 3800 SC is not very reliable is that due to the SC creating too much heat or are there things one can do to prevent problems? Honestly I know it's just a Pontiac but for some reason I always liked the GP GTP's a lot. I even quietly considered one before my TL. Never test drove one though and wrote it off because of poor reliability.
