% tint on a black TL.
I have been wanting to get my new TL-S tinted for a while. Its a black TL, im in NJ so I cant go 5% which is what I would like to do, but thats guaranteed being pulled over.
What do you guys recommend. I am leaning 20-30% tint but cant decide.
Also wats a good place to get windows tinted around NJ.
Thanks in advance.

im also in jersey and want my windows tinted, i havent done it yet for fear of police. anyway i suggest totowa audio II, my friend had his done there and they look immaculate. he got 20% and they look very dark, so you may want to go for the 30% to be less conspicuous

What color interior do you have? That actually affects how dark it will look a lot. A lighter interior will give a lighter look to the tint while a darker interior will give a darker look to the tint. Only reason I went 20% is because I have a light interior and it doesn't appear so dark.

I have ebony interior on a NBP. I got 35% on the sides and 20% on the rear. With the black interior it looks much darker, and I decided it wasnt worth getting the $150 tickets with the 20% i really wanted. My buddy has 35% on his TL with tan interior and you can barely tell its tinted!

If you can pull it off, get the lowest legal limit in your state, which I'm assuming is 20%. And like most people stated, it also depends on your interior color. I have black interior and that ultimately enhanced my 5% tint especially at night. And with your exterior being black, I'm sure 20% will look very slick and sexy of course

Had 35% on front window for NBP with black interior and 15% rear and to me it still looks pretty light on the front. I'm thinking of 18% all around which should look pretty dark, but not dark enough to causing any safety concern when back up at night. Cali has no front window tint so any % tint is illegal which I just removed mine after 5 years of tinted.
Btw, for those in SoCal and Maryland/DC/Virginia area, Xlnttint.com has insurance (cost $40) that if you got ticket for front window tint, they will remove the tint, get correction, then re-tint for free. The catch is you have to do the tint from them and $40 insurance is one time deal. You have to buy another $40 insurance in case you get another ticket.

I know have an NBP with beige interior and I first did 20% all around it serious at night with the nav screen on looked like I had no tints, I was disppointed that I went back the next day and took the rear window off and put 15% down and it still didn't do the trick so then I ultimately took down the sides and went to 15% all the way and now finally it looks good. I also tinted my front windshield 55%.
Now before some of you guys say 15% all around with 55% on the windshield is too dark, I compared it to other people with ebony interior TL's with 20% all around and no windshield tint and their car looks slightly darker, so I'm very happy with this combo and this is what I recommend for people with beige interiors.
I get all my tints done through STEVE at tintmax and always a pleasure. www.tintmax.com he does high ends stuff all the time and is located in Queens. If you do decide to use him tell him Raj with the Black TL and Silver GS recommended you and he'll definitely treat you favorably.

I had 5% all around for about 2 years and only got pulled over quite a few times (No tickets BTW). You couldn't see a damn thing, day or night. I switched it to 20% on the sides, both front/rear and the back window at 5% over the summer. I like the 20% better. Not too dark, not too light. It's just about right. The most you can see is your silhouette.
04 NBP/Ebony/Nav done at Auto Works, Middletown, NJ.
I wouldn't go to F1 Motoring, where I had my tint done the first time or Ultimate Sounds. I love F1 for everything else, but both places use the same crappy tint guy.

35% is really not even worth doing. Even with dark interior, it is barely noticeable. I've got NBP with camel (light) interior with 20% all around and it seems just about right. With the light interior and I keep the sunshade open all the time, it's not too dark to get harassed. I've been pulled over a few times for other infractions and never got a ticket for tint yet (knock-on-wood) although 1 cop did test my windows and told me it was illegal. I did get a ticket for my tail-light covers though - but that cop just had nothing better to do and wanted to fuck with me - he also gave me a ticket because he said my GReddy license plate frame was too thick!!! - total BS.....

I love the look of tint but dont like the uneven of no tint on the front sides and dark rear windows. I have never had tint on my either of my Tls but tinted the front windows when I had my MDX to match the back. Give it some thought though. ANY TINT OF FRONT WINDOWS IN NJ IS ILLEGAL !! Back when I was younger and was "fighting" the system I went thru it all. I had a cop scratch the tint so I would take it off, one cop made me remove it on the side of the road, and one some towns have MANDATORY court appearances required for tint violations. The judge sends an officer out to the car to reinspect it. If it was legal I would have my car done but if theres a risk of that half done look, Ehh. Ill pass. Heres a link for you. http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/NJ/

Legal front tint in NJ (central NJ)
Clint, I am also in central NJ, what place do you recommend? Also, is 20% all around legal in NJ? The Cops around my way have no crime to fight, thus ticketing is their way to justify their salaries. Give me some recommendations for the front and rear for a Silver Type-S (Ebony interior). I should be closing the deal on that baby sometimes next week.

Really? Did you use the link I provided, because it says different for NJ.
Are you refrering to NJ laws, WA laws or some other place? You know each state is different, right?
You think 20% will be fine in NC? The law here says 35%, but 20% should be fine right? Well maybe, right up to the point you fail you're annual "safety" inspection - you know the one NC has where you have to pay $10 extra for the inspection station to measure your tints and fails you below 32%? 20% should be fine, though, right?

i have 35% all around on my black tl-s. its a pretty good shade. its dark enough for me. you can see through at times but at other times you cant. 20% would good too. 5% is killing it.

IT will be 20% or up tp 35%...thats about it.
I chose 32 tints, because I thought if they were any darker they might make the car look ricey or young.
32 is dark enough, slick, and just enough visibilty for the hot girls in the other car to see you at the intersection.
A more important question is...what kind of tints should I buy...
I chose HP charcoal tints since they have lifetime warantee, guarantee against fading, peeling, and they have high reflectance against UV and heat.
Also make sure a reputable tinter does the job, and use real moleskin felt on the window rubber liner..
do a search, there is a tonne of material.

i dont know why people always say that if they get 5% tint they will always be pulled over...fact is, any tint is illegal. i had 5% tint on my old car for 3 years and NEVER got pulled over just because of my tints, only time i got a tint ticket is cause i was speeding. in most states any kind of tint on the front windows is illegal, so just get what you want, dont worry about getting pulled over
