$500 Lesson in Wheel Locks
I use the System by Gorilla.. it makes ALL of your lugnuts wheel locks not just one. No way they're going to have enough 12 point sockets to steal my rims! And if they do, they prolly need it more than me!
Got my wheels jacked this year too in Chicago (northwest sider as well but not jeff park). All three of ours happened this year within ~3-4 months of one another, so probably the same guys. In my case, cops didn't care. Be careful near Pulaski/Lawrence (Jeff Park isn't too far from there).
I bet that shop was hoping to give you cheap replicas and charge the insurance for the more expensive OEM wheels and keep the difference. Every time I have to deal with a body shop I get the impression they are just as big of criminals as the wheel thieves are.

That was my initial impression, but I asked for a copy of the invoice and it looks like the scammers in this situation were the distributor from who the shop gets their wheels. In fact, after I complained about the so called replicas, the shop re-submitted an estimate to State Farm that was $2k~ higher than the original to get new ones. I'm really lucky with the way this worked out for me.
Thanks for all the love from everyone! Where the heck are all you Chicago guys and why don't we have a local AZ crew? :-P

I know this may be off topic can we just look at the bending capabilities of those sideskirts, theyre is no cracking and the whole cars weight is on there.
On topic though sorry man, really sucks, i need to get some wheel locks for the ratchet streets of tucson.

Man, that sucks. Even though I have the stock 2006 on right now, I still park the car in the garage all the time even if I have to leave the house in next 5-10 min. Hope everything worked up well for you.

Haha yes. Thanks for holding my feet to the fire. I'll put something up this weekend as I'll have a chance to take them off and snap some pics. In a word: satisfied. Definitely worth the price if you have expensive tires/wheels.

Just did a write up of the Rimlox. Sorry for the delay. Life keeps getting in the way of Acurazine.

A ton of people are being hit in Chicago lately. I've seen it on some other forums and all over Facebook. Guess it's not as uncommon as I thought.
I found guitarplayer16's sensor thread so I'll just leave it here for anyone else reading this in the future.

sorry man
Scumbags man. I hope they get caught. I have wheel locks in my glove box for my type S, and don't use them. This makes me really think about using them! Sorry this happened and glad the insurance is covering.

Thanks! This has been resolved for a while. The thieves won't get caught unless someone catches them in the act. The police simply don't care. The law is powerless to help you, but not to punish you.
Use your wheel locks dude!

They will get caught bro, sooner or later, everybody reaps what they sow sooner or later.

wow all of the pictures in this thread look so bad... I got the stock wheels so I am not worried about them being stolen. However I got this nice surveillance camera outside of my building because my neighbor was throwing some s&*t on my cars and I wanted to get him

which wheel locks actually work tho? My bros and I had wheel locks on our older cars and they were still able to take the wheels. Factory lock suck, after market locks suck..
So what actually works???

RIMLOX actually works. But it's really expensive and kind of a pain to remove. And it's also a pain to have to ship them your key every time you use it just to keep their guarantee of replacing your wheels if they ever get stolen.
Sorry to hear, OP.
Ditto on the car thieves in Chicago.. my old car got stolen in front of my own damn house 3 years ago (Harlem/Addison). It was an 01 Corolla piece of shit, but it was still my piece of shit. I've since moved up near Wrigley and I have to park my TL on the street. Kills me every time I turn it off for the night.
I'll keep on the lookout for type-s rims as well and will post if I see anything.

Wait - they took your car out of your garage?? Garage attached to your house or do you live in a complex where there is a large parking garage? Was the garage locked? Car locked? Sorry to see what happened nonetheless
Garage is detached. Locked. They pried the steel door open and then pull the cord to open the garage. Car was not locked. But I did have The Club on the steering wheel and they snipped it. They must have used wheel dollies to maneuver it out. My TL was parked in front of the garage. Had it been closer to the garage, they prob would have broken in my TL and released the e-brake to move it back.
Car was found 3 days later in a garage. Interior completely stripped and gone. The hood and both bumpers are actually in the car. Engine was also recovered.
3 ppl were arrested on the spot for receiving/concealing stolen property, but were released 3 days later. It's up to the cops to link them via fingerprints on what was recovered before they can be charged. Innocent until proven guilty.…
My insurance, geico, had to wait for the police to be finished and moved it to Insurance Auto Auctions for their adjuster to review. He's already submitted his findings to his boss and is awaiting approval. I haven't told him of buying it back yet. Want to get the big number nailed down first.

That body looks flawless. Even if you reassemble her, she'll forever have that "dirty girl" VIN status
what a mega bummer. Many on here have never experienced or understand the joy an ITR brings. It is something truly special. Even more so when you realize it is 15 years old.
At least they didn't beat the shit out of her. I'd take that body as is, off your hands if I could. What a damn shame.

It was very clean. Had only 85k miles. I had mint white 17" SSR Type Cs on it also. Just sad…
So if the car was found, were all the parts found too?
I actually noticed that yesterday evening. I was like "those ssr wheels are five lug... What's going on. I was wondering if you had a '97 with a 4 lug setup, but I think that only happened in Japan(with the '96s I think).

Interior completely stripped. Only recovered engine/tranny with shift linkage still attached. Inside the car is the hood, both bumpers, and maybe the fenders. I didn't look super close.

Kidnapped from my garage in the middle of the night.
