$400 to replace windshield?

Just wondering if people think this is a good deal. The place where I am going says its usually $150-$200 for imports, but he said I have some thermal thing so its $400 installed. Anyone out there got a better deal? I am in WA.

The TL has a thicker than normal windshield with an acoustic coating for noise isolation from outside the cabin; $300 - $400 sounds about right for aftermarket, however I insisted on OEM which was around $800 for mine..

I would go OEM ONLY. The windshield in the TL is part of the cars structural integrity. Not knowing how aftermarket glass responds to the needs to the TL could prove costly later on.

Are you actually paying for this? I thought windsheilds were usually a $0 Deductible, Comprehensive Insurance item?

Only if you have it included in your policy. Otherwise it follows your normal accident deductible rules.

dude, I hate washington during winter time. especially woodinville/duvall area, so many damn trucks that kick up rocks. my windshield has been fixed MANY MANY times, but the last one did significant damage, I have to replace it, but waiting till springish...$0 deductable for windshield replacement, thank god!

but if the bill comes out to $800, my insurance company is going to be PISSED.

I just got OEM windshield replaced by Auto Diamond Glass. I can't remember exactly the total but it's almost 1100 dollars with 250 deductible.

well if ur getting a windshield replaced through insurance the prices they put on the paper are a hell of a lot higher than anything theyd give someone just walking in but we all knew that so we can go on to the next topic. if its OEM glass 400 installed is a great price. I havent found the glass for less than 460 shipped with all the moldings and sealant.

You must be joking; I would comment on that further but

I had to replace mine not too long ago. Rather than go through the insurance company and not quite meeting my deductible in paying for it and potentially causing my rates to go up, I looked into both the OEM and a aftermarket. When I heard the charge of $800 for the OEM one because of its "acoustic layer", I went cheap. In all honesty, I have noticed no difference between the two. If you are quite the audiophile, you could certainly find a cheaper aftermarket one that would meet the acoustic "quality" of the OEM one, which, other than perhaps a different rating on the Mohs scale, would be the primary difference;I noticed no such disparity between the two.

In Florida, your comment is correct. Florida Law calls for insurers to require zero deductible for windshield replacement. If you see someone driving with a cracked windshield, it usually means they have no insurance.

NEVER EVER have any sympathy for insurance companies.

They make more net profit every hour of every day than you or I make in a year regardless of how many claims they have to pay out.

In fact, the glass shops could only get my ex-Special Edition Accord's windshield from a Honda dealer.

~$600 or so for one here in Memphis. Had it for longer than a year and no problems at all. I don't think it was from ACURA but it has the same things (thicker, acoustic layer, etc).

Why not care to elaborate, if I am wrong, it would be good for me to have the correct information on the subject rather than spread the wrong information to members in the future...

It is "Would you care to elaborate" and I should provide you correct information on what subject? If you are speaking of your reply to the OP, I was simply countering that it is ridiculous to suggest that an OEM windshield supplies a nominal amount of support for the integrity of a vehicle's frame, if in fact any windshield serves this purpose, as compared to an aftermarket windshield. I am no expert so correct me if I am wrong, but for a debate on this topic, start a new thread because we are drifting off topic.

Do a search on this board. You will see my post. In the spring, I got mine replaced with the special sound material. The auto glass guy I used works with Honda. He didn't know about the special glass until I told him. He said I was right, but it would cost more. The insurance company didn't care which one I got, since I was paying the deductable no matter what, plus they can't raise your premiums because of glass. So I got the special glass. This guy told me this glass was made in USA. The glass on our cars comes from Japan and is much softer. I haven't had a nick since I got it replaced. If you get this glass, make sure it's American.

Thanks for all the advice...I don't have windshield insurance, do you think Allstate will still take care of it? I guess theres only one way to tell, by calling...Well if they don't cover it, is $400 a decent price installed? I really don't care about if its OEM or aftermarket.

Not to be contrarian, but do you replace your windshield every 18 months? Seems kinda steep to me.

Comprehensive coverage is for things like that. If you have full coverage you can get the windsheild replaced. You should just call your people and ask them how much your deductable is for comprehensive claims like replacing your W/S. It's usually $250 or less.

Yeah $22.00 a month is rather pricey, I pay I believe $30 per vehicle a year for the comprehensive W/S coverage, $0 deductible.
