lol i agree, last time acura of stockton's service department tried to charge me $184 for a brake inspection on my integra. i watched them too and here's what they did:
1) jack up the car
2) remove the wheels
3) look at the rotor and brake pads without even taking off the caliper
4) remount the wheels and lower the car
5) "that'll be $184 sir."
after 1 minute of complaining, they let it go free of charge. needless to say that acura of stockton's service department was caught scamming customers and is now under new management. this incident happened over two years ago though.

dealer really charge way too much for any maintenance....
i already go to my preferred local mechanic for my Service B already. It costs me only $65 where as the dealer quoted me for $200

Why the hell do you let them do it?
When they tell me that I need the "XXk mile service" I immediately go to the manual and see what THEY recommend at say 15k miles.
Normally its check this and adjust that (brakes, belts, exhaust, emmissions, etc.) for which they will charge you a couple hours labor.
Then they'll rotate the tires for another hour's labor.
So long as I'm not having any specific problems, I don't let them inspect ANYTHING. Only if the MANUAL SAYS something needs to be actually REPLACED I'll do it. And at 15k NOTHING should need to be replaced. The tires probably should be rotated but you can do that yourself in a hour if you have a floor jack from Wal-Mart.
Don't let the dealer suck you into "checking and inspecting" stuff that's working fine, especially at only 15k miles! Its pure labor and pure profit for the dealership since they're paying that service tech his salary anyway!

Only go to the dealer for warranty work or freebies (free oil changes with purchase of the car, etc). There are better, more experienced and more reasonable mechanics elsewhere. Even better, do your own service.

I got to be friendly with the service manager and have him stamp my book even when I rotate my own tires and change my own oil. It's not brain surgery, so I won't feel bad when I sell my car and the book shows that all of the maintenance was completed.

I just keep an Excel spreadsheet and the parts records needed to back it up.
