I believe the transmission want's to hold the gear another hundred RPM or so but the rev limiter comes in before the transmission is satisfied. That or the bone heads at Honda forgot to set a code in the transmission ecu to shift up from 2nd to 3rd under WOT or heavy loads.

Either way, the ECU has complete control over it's self and will write a code eventually based on your driving habits. I would think...

You need to make sure you are not in sport mode manual. When coming from a stop the RLX will shift first and second automatically but you need to pickup from there on the paddle shifter.

to reset the behavior, turn off sport mode and the shifts will be automatic. Also, the engine will rev high as it’s a 310hp beast that loves to go fast.

Yup. I have a 2020 RXL Sport Hybrid. It is a wonderful car, but if I floor it off the line, I get a lag at 2000 rpm, then it takes off, but often shifts somewhere between 5000 and 6000 rpm. Sometimes, it will hit 6500 rpm, but I don't think it ever made it to 6700. Using paddles in 'manual' mode doesn't help.

I had a 2017 RLX Tech, and it did not have these issues. I also had a 2005 RL, now that was a luxury car, and except for the funny beak in front, it was a fine looking car.

My favorite was a 1993 Legend LS 6 speed coupe. It needed another 70 HP, but it was a great car.

Owned my low-mileage 2019 RDX for 10 months and generally pleased with it. Once only had the same issue not downshifting with sudden WOT application to make a semi-urgent pass on an interstate. What happened then was the check engine light appeared, and the car suddenly began running on "limp-home" mode. Fortunately I was right at an exit. By the time I came to a stop 2 or 3 minutes later the check engine light went off, and I got all 10 gears back. Resumed my Toronto to Cocoa Beach trip without further issues. Over lesser severity, I find the tranny quite slow to shift into 1st gear in city driving making slow turns without a stop. Just a little annoying. My wife's ILX with the 8-speed dual clutch trans - excellent!
