Windshield wiper replacement

Guys I need help - we had rain recently & my wipers are done, they performed so poorly. my ‘18 SH was bought used so the original wiper blades housing are gone, so no option to simply replace the rubber refill. So instead I have to buy one of those mass produced replacements. But - I just realized our windshield wiper stalks are below the lip of the hood! How do I pull them up to replace the wiper blades? The manual was useless, no directions to somehow get them to stay in the up position. i tried to “catch” it in the up position and turning off the car but that only gets overridden anyway & they fall back into their nesting position.

Hey Phile, I looked in the manual and found the following for windshield wiper replacement. Sorry for the odd spacing, I cut and paste it from the manual pdf and that is how it came out. While I've never replaced the wipers myself, others have suggested placing a towel or two on the windshield when the wiper blades are off just in case they get bumped and slam down onto the windshield. The RLX Sport Hybrid windshield is very expensive and VERY hard to find, so it is probably a good idea to be extra cautious. Good Luck.

These instructions are for the 2014 RLX Sport Hybrid, I'm assuming that they are the same for the 2018. If not, double check the manual, it might be in there somewhere under windshield wipers.

1. Set the power mode to VEHICLE OFF (LOCK).

2. While holding the wiper switch in the MIST position, set the power mode to ON, then to VEHICLE OFF (LOCK).
u Both wiper arms are set to the

maintenance position as shown in the image.

3. Lift both wiper arms.

1Changing the Wiper Blade Rubber

NOTICE

Avoid dropping the wiper arm; it may damage the windshield.

4. Press and hold the tab, then slide the blade out from the wiper arm.

5. Pull the end of the wiper blade to the direction of the arrow in the image until it unfastens from the holder’s end cap.

out

6. Pull the wiper blade to the opposite direction to slide it out from its holder.

7. Insert the flat side of the new wiper blade onto the bottom part of the holder. Insert the blade all the way.

8. Install the end of the wiper blade into the cap.

9. Slide the wiper blade onto the wiper arm until it locks.

10. Lower both wiper arms.

11. Set the power mode to ON and hold the
wiper switch in the MIST position until both wiper arms return to the standard position.

Thank you! I looked in the paper manual and didn’t see this. I knew there had to be a way to get it to stay up. Great advice on the towels on the windshield. It’s now dark so i’ll have to try changing them tomorrow but I tested the steps to get the wiper stalks up and they are correct.

It's in the manual.

My dealer tech replaced them free without all those steps.

I've always liked the Bosch ICON wipers (ICON 26A driver, 19A or 19B Passenger). I replaced the entire wiper holder last year from OEM in a few minutes when I popped the hood for more room. I don't use my wipers much in the southwest with 5-7 inches of precipitation for the entire year. They usually get damaged over time from heat and UV damage compared to use. Probably use my wipers more just to get the constant layer of dust or pollen off the windshield. Bosch seem to last for years, no skipping/chatter, quiet, works at 70-80 mph hwy speeds, and little to no "back splash" on downward stroke.

welp, as luck would have it, a crack developed (nothing to do with the wiper installations). Was driving and a rock hit, then we had drastic temperature changes, and then the crack just appeared.

Covered by my geico but still a $500 deductible.
