Siri Eyes Free .... but not for RLX??

Honda announced today the availability of "Siri Eyes Free" for several vehicles -- the Honda Accord and Acura RDX and ILX. No mention of the RLX. I guess their flagship car doesn't rate the latest technology.

Does this make sense to anyone??

Here is a link to the press release:

Just a guess here and I'll defer to the current RLX owners or Acura dealers for confirmation, but most of the functions of Siri Eyes Free are likely already available in the RLX through the voice recognition functions??

Siri integration was announced quite some time ago. Well over a year now if I recall correctly. In retrospect, it's been something of a disappointment that the announcement was made so early and it's taken so long to bring the final product to market. I don't think the RLX is being excluded because they don't want it to have it. Most likely, the next generation dual screen head units require additional work to fully integrate with iOS.

I would also add that if you are willing to pick up the phone and handle it while driving, you can make Siri do everything she normally does through the linked Bluetooth system. It's very easy to make Siri "read my messages" using the home button on an iPhone. It will play through the car speakers and you will be given the option to "reply"

I think you're right Colin. For the simple reason that the 2014 RLX & 2014 MDX share the same Nav system and they excluded to announce this feature for the MDX, makes me believe that either it requires additional development work for the next-gen Nav systems or they felt it wasn't really needed since you can already pretty much do everything you need with the current iOS integration, sans Siri.

Just had this installed on my '14 RDX. absolutely nothing special. just allows me to use the voice command button to activate Siri. nothing shows on the navi/infotainment screen. i can't push navigation to the on board navi, it's done on the phone. not worth it if you have to pay. my dealer did it free

Get out of here. Really?

I didn't know that. I'll try that out today.

I've wondered why the iPhone 5S doesn't seem to integrate better with the Acura systems. It's probably just like Cydia...64-bit A7 just changed everything.

You should try it out and let us know if it works for you. As for the 5S, most likely, Apple's secrecy fetish makes it hard for automakers to work with the latest hardware.

Note that you need to have the "audio source" on the car set to "bluetooth" for this to work. otherwise you won't hear anything.

Good point, mine is always on BT Audio so it never occurred to me that you might need to switch inputs.

The A7 chip has thrown a lot of people.

I don't know if you're familiar with the evasion + Cydia/Saurik debacle, but it's obvious that even the most experienced people were caught off guard by the 64-bit A7 chip.

They're still not caught up.

The iBlacklist application, one of the most important government and business applications for iOS and SEOSX, still doesn't work on the iPhone 5S.
