LOL, year-long "rattle" fixed
LOL, year-long "rattle" fixed
Ever since I've had the car, I would have an intermittent rattle - actually, more of a "snap" sound - coming from the passenger side dashboard in the area of the glovebox. It would happen only when I hit a sharp bump, and I figured for a long time it was something I had in the glovebox or door pocket. But I looked in those areas a week ago and found nothing.
Then last night I was looking for something in the glovebox that required me to take everything out, and I found something interesting. The upper "shelf" in the glovebox has some tabs on the back side that plug into slots in the back wall of the glovebox ... and the horizontal portion of the shelf was not plugged into the slots. In other words, the shelf was "floating", and therefore making the sound when I hit a sharp enough bump.
I test drove some bumps today and the sound is gone, so I think I got it.
So, if you have a snap or pop sound from that area, check the glovebox shelf.

About a decade ago the 2004 TL I had experienced a similar thing. It turned out to be a small screw driver I placed in the passenger door pocket and only rattled going over rail road tracks. I found it after putting up with it for 2 years. I felt stupid for not figuring it out sooner.
I'm glad that RLX rattle was a minor one not a quality control issue.

Telling on myself again, I actually took a car back to the dealership once for a rattle, only to have them open the sunglass holder, take out my spare pair of shades and fix the rattle.
