Question How to recognize the culprit - why is engine bay so dirty?

As I was browsing internet(S) I found this image and I started wondering why does this engine bay look so dirty? Look like the hood was opened and it rained during the dust storm... what do you guys think?
This car has 115k miles on the odo

I don't like a dirty engine bay. I usually try to wipe the dust off the plastic parts after every wash with a microfiber cloth.

The engine bay of my 19 MDX sport hybrid look similar when I took a 5000 mile round trip to the PNW from NM during X-mas/New Year a few years ago. Picked up all kinds of road muck and dirt along the way because every state uses something a little different on snowy/icy roads.
