DRL operation
DRL operation
I don't think my DRL's are working properly. When the switch is in Auto, they low beams never switch over to DRL even in the middle of the brightest day

From page 140 of the manual:
The low beam headlights come on slightly dimmer than normal when the following
conditions have been met:
• The power mode is in ON.
• The headlight switch is AUTO, or in .
• The parking brake is released.
The low beam headlights return to the original brightness once the headlight
switch is turned on, or when the head light switch is in AUTO and it is getting
darker outside.
Daytime Running Lights U.S. Models:
The daytime running lights come on dimmer when
the headlight switch is in (the position of a symbol that looks like two lamps) than when it is in AUTO.
In AUTO, if the ambient brightness is dark,
the low beam headlights come on.
Anybody else have this problem?

I don't really think of it as a problem, but it does seem to me the lights are pretty much just ON during the day.
The car was delivered with the switch on Auto and the fog lights On, and I've never bothered to do anything with it since it works just fine for me.
But...now that you mention it, the low beams do not seem to be dimmed in my configuration.

It seems that the DRL is another feature that helps the Jewel Eye "shine" (pun intended) and exceed other headlight systems.
The whole purpose of DRL is to make the vehicle more visible to other drivers and the wide dispersion of the Jewel Eye maximizes this effect even on less than 100% power. With older systems that use the high beam bulb on a lower power setting, that bulb is focused into a high, narrow beam straight ahead of the car meaning that it has the potential to be too bright for oncoming drivers and at the same time all but useless/invisible for cars outside that narrow beam. Conversely, if you find yourself in the blind spot of another car, the broad dispersion of the Jewel Eye DRL will provide a little flicker of light to the side of your direction of travel that could mean the difference between the other driver seeing you and having no idea that you are there.
Kudos to Acura for a very clever system.

Speaking of fog lights...we have yet to see ANY pictures of the RLXh LED fog lights in action. Not even Acura has any pictures posted with them on...(not surprised).
Any of you lucky bastages care to post us a pic of your pretty little LED fogs?

The RLX is the same as the TLX, right? IIRC what I saw once, the TLX DRLs are the top edge of the jewels (3 or 5?). The lows are the full 3 outer and the highs the 2 inner. Hard to notice the slight difference.

I don't think they even do much good, but somebody else here thinks they do exactly what they are supposed to do.
Perhaps my problem is that I'm old enough to remember that they used to be called auxiliary driving lamps, and used to provide a very decent amount of illumination. :-)
Thanks George! Whenever you get a chance, I'd love to see a slightly farther off shot and front center. just to get a sense for the difference in front lighting presence the car has when it's coming at you from a distance.

Here's a morning shot from earlier today. Lights are fully on (i.e. not DRLs; switch is on "ON", not "AUTO". I'll try to get a night-time shot later. Note that the LED foglight is a single "bulb" on each side.

perfect shot bob! and it looks great! has a well balanced look to it when approaching you.
No worries on the night shot. I actually prefect day time shots with the lights because it helps you get a better perspective of how the lights look as it relates to the rest of the body, which is difficult to see in night shots, not to mention CBP at night
Hope you're stayin warm up there!

On a dark night and on a street with little illumination I can tell the difference between the fog (shouldn't they be yellow if true fog lights?) lights on and off--when on the dispersion pattern illuminates the sides and maybe 20 feet in front of the car. I have not checked if the fog lights turn off when the brights are on.
