I found a CPO 2018 RLX Sport Hybrid, Black/Black with 64,500 miles at an Acura dealer near me. Asking $29,700. Should I consider it now that my
2014 RDX was recently also totaled? I miss everything about the car but this one is 7 years old and even though the Carfax is good , no accidents, I
need some other peoples advice. This is like an old friend possibly coming back to me with the same mileage as the one I wrecked. HELP!!!!

I'm torn, snoozabelle.
On the one hand, you loved your RLX Sport Hybrid and buying the one you found has a 99.9% certainty of making you happy.

On the other hand, I am holding out hope that Acura grows a brain and brings back hybrid powertrains. This has the potential to give you an even BETTER hybrid driving experience with their very latest infotainment system etc.

This is the classic bird in the hand versus two in the bush scenario. In this case, my recommendation would be to buy the RLX Sport Hybrid and enjoy it thoroughly. If Acura does make an amazing new hybrid vehicle that is absolutely PERFECT for your driving wants and needs, then there is nothing stopping you from waiting a year or two (to let Acura add whatever sweeteners they seem to add in year two or three of a new model) and then buying the latest greatest Acura has to offer and enjoying years and years of blissful driving. I should mention that said perfect new model will likely cost 5 times more than the RLX SH you found, which may be a HUGE consideration.

Just my two cents (from a guy who is driving an 11 year old Sport Hybrid desperately waiting for Acura to make something worth buying as its replacement)

Honda did just about everything right with the RLX, especially the sport hybrid. If you don't have to have built-in Car Play or Android Auto, then make an offer.

 

snoozabelle, my advice is: buy the RLX but BE CAREFUL WITH IT!

 

What is the downside to buying it if it basically replacing what you had?

 

I'd say to buy it if you're happy with the condition and the way it drives. Only caution would be to check the maintenance records on fluids, etc. Plus, you're nearing the time-based requirement to replace the timing belt (7 years). We have a similar 2018 Sport Hybrid and it's got only 21k miles - but it's been in service since Jul 2018, so we need to decide just when to tackle the timing belt.

Otherwise, you won't go wrong with the RLX SH - especially the latest iteration (2018+), as it has the updated grille, etc.

I'm another CPO 18 RLX Sport Hybrid owner purchased with 7200 miles back in Dec/2019. Extremely reliable after +5 years and +45,000 miles with only the 12v battery replaced in 2021, TSB for 7DCT odd gear firmware updated, and waiting on parts for fuel pump. The only issue I have is my CPO started at the time of original purchase back in 2018. The CPO warranty kicks in once the 4/50k basic and 6/70k powertrain expires. The CPO is pretty much AcuraCare at 6/100k for basic and 7/100k for powertrain; but, the CPO basic expired by time in 2024 and 7/100k powertrain is done sometime in 2025 (+45,000 miles on RLX now). It might be a reason for the dealership to sell the RLX at a higher price being CPO and the CPO warranty might only have a few month left at most?

I really like having the RLX for around town city errands or out of town day/overnight trips along with have the the larger MDX Sport Hybrid for long haul travel and utility duties (Carplay, extra hatch space, roof rack, and hitch for bikes). If you liked have the RDX, it might be worth test driving an 18-20 MDX Sport Hybrid (you get Carplay with the 18-20 MDXs). I love the RLX power, mpgs, styling, and extra leg room; but, just couldn't give up the utility, high sitting position, sporty handling with electronic dampers, and improved visibility of the MDX. Worked out the wifey loves driving the RLX and I prefer driving the MDX.
