Smart entry - unlocking door issue

Before, if I cannot unlock the door when holding the driver door handle, I would grab the rear door and it’ll unlock. This morning, I went around all four doors and it none would work. After looking like an idiot grabbing each door handle several times, it would work but then stop again.

I replaced the battery in the key fob but same problem still exist.

Locking is also intermittent but unlocking is my biggest concern at the moment.

I carry my cell phone in a holster, on my right hip. If I place my keyfob in my right coat pocket, I cannot unlock the doors. If I place the keyfob in my left coat pocket, everything operates normally.

When you lift the handle on your RDX, a radio signal is transmitted (about 3') from an antenna in that particular door. When the keyfob receives the signal, it transmits it's unique code back to the car, and the doors unlock. The radio emissions from the cell phone can prevent the keyfob from seeing the original signal from the door antenna.

Also confirm if you experience your problems at multiple locations. If it only happens at one location, in your garage for example, you are probably getting interference from an electronic device. Some LED bulbs in a garage door opener have been reported to do this.

Thank you for your response Rick.

This is happening when the car is parked outside (I never lock the door if it’s parked inside the garage). I’ve had the car for over six years and today the symptom seems most frequent.

I got my ‘25 rdx about 2 weeks ago and today I just experienced similar issues… the driver door smart handle didn’t unlock when i put my hand on it… I grabbed the rear door and it worked fine. Drove around for a little while and then when i parked the smart entry on driver side door worked again. Not very reassuring.

My 2023 RDX did this frequently when new and the dealer reprogrammed the fobs to the vehicle. It took care of the issue. However, you may find occasional glitches with this vehicle…I had a 2019 and now a 2023.

You mentioned outside, was in raining or was the car wet?

I have similar issues with the keyless entry in my Focus ST, water makes the sensor act all goofy and not work when wet sometimes.
