License plate bumper holes

Eric at BumperPlugs.com was super helpful in making sure the plugs matched perfectly.

I’m envious of states that don’t require a front plate.

Me, too. The thread starter, however, is in Ohio which does require a front plate.

Alas, NJ has a $100 fine. They've found a way to monetize everything in NJ.

Uh.....I’m in delaware. Looked at a blue car in PA that had the plugs and were color matched, and ended up buying in Delaware. Neither PA/DE require front bumper plates. BoTh cars, same color had plugs or showed where the holes for the plate would be. I even called to make sure there was no plate because my car was transferred from jersey to delaware. It came to me with no plate but I can see where it would go. I think they show up to dealers this way.

I think they come from the factory with 'dimples' so they know where to drill.
I'm interested in the plugs because I may be moving back to my home state, PA, in the future.

Missouri requires a front plate as well.. A friend of mine has a Corvette and refuses to put a license on the front. He pays $100 every time he gets pulled over and it has been at least a dozen times.

Bumperplugs came out wonderful on my new RDX! Expensive (like $30) for literally $3 worth of parts but super easy to install and color matched perfectly. Loving it!

I take the chance with my other cars but not the RDX. It is my daily driver so I dont mind the plates on it. Eric matches the color perfect so worries in that department

In Wisconsin, a front plate is required too, but with over 200,000 miles on a 2003, I've never even had an officer look at me for that anyhow.

After researching the www for options, I decided to make my own bumper plugs for my 2019 Acura RDX. I used Hillman Variable Depth Push Fasteners for GM which can be purchased at Lowe's. Cost: $ .72 + Tax. I sanded and sprayed the fasteners with White Gloss Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X spray paint from Home Depot. Cost: $3.87 + Tax. The diameter of the fasteners was a little larger than the original license plate holes, so I trimmed them down with a razor blade to fit. The idea is I did not want to enlarge the original license plate holes so that I could reinstall my front license plate for the annual Safety Check. Mission Accomplished! Total Cost: Priceless.

If you don't require a front plate, why drill out the holes to install plugs??? What am I missing here?

Maybe the dealer drilled out the holes.

I cannot imagine a dealer drilling the holes in a state that doesn't require a front license plate bracket. Makes ZERO sense.

Maybe the dealer drilled out the license plate holes in the front bumper because the buyer's state requires new cars are sold with the front license plates installed.

Really??? Have you looked at the above posts? If a state requires a front license plate then the plate bracket would be installed and there would be a plate on it. You cannot just remove it and not show a plate in a state where it is legally required. Sorry, but unless I am missing something in your post, it makes no sense at all

Legal or not some people do it and take their chances. See posts 10, 13 and possibly 14 above.

old post revival thanks to all for the heads up. I did an internet purchase from NC to Va. we do not need a front plate but the dealer neglected to see that and put the front plate package on. After we drove 300 miles the deal went smoothly I was a bit tired and the presence of the ugly front plate rubber on it did not register till I got ready to drive away. so 30 bucks plus shipping is a bit much otoh although I could do a diy this is probably better for my ocd

Did you have to drill the holes to fit the plugs? It mentioned on their site that some cars may need to drill the holes to 9/32"?

Negative. The idea is NOT to drill any holes in the bumper larger than they already are on the DIY mod that I did. Good luck.
