Exclamation Everything is broken? What???

Hi,

I got a panicked call from my wife yesterday. Apparently, everything in the car is broken! I figured this was probably a gross overstatement and since I could not help her immediately at the time, she drove slowly on the backroads home. And then she shared this video. Apparently, she was not kidding. The car has been very reliable and had no real problems until today, and my wife says she did not hit anything or do anything unusual. Now everything does seem to be broken?#!

So, Vehicle Stability Assist System Problem. Hill Start Assist Problem. Electric Power Steering System Problem. Wow, that's a lot!

What is going on? She said the car drove mostly fine on the way home, except it kept braking randomly for collision avoidance when nothing was around.

Check out the attached video!

Agree with John from PA - weak batteries have been know to manifest themselves in all sorts of odd behavior / electrical issues. A 2nd question would be did the symptoms disappear when your RDX was turned off and restarted?

99% chance it's the battery. All my Honda/Acura batteries have died prematurely after 2-3 years on the dot.

It is 5 years old (I think my 5th year loan payment was this month! I hope there are no more!). It is 90% likely the original battery.

The diagnosis is that the battery is definitely bad. Thanks for all your help--you are all life savers!

The shop wants $425-$495 to replace the battery (the difference in cost is whether the battery needs to be registered!). Costco is $170+tax. So I'll be looking up how to replace battery videos...

I replaced the battery almost exactly at 5 years on mine. The auto start/stop feature is a convenient warning sign. If it stops using it, the battery is going out.

Also, when you install a new one, it will ask for a code or password for the entertainment system. Just hit enter; there is no code.

Check the Costco warranty and compare it against the same battery at Walmart. You likely will find the Costco battery to be 3-years and pro-rated and the same battery at Walmart for 3 year full replacement at $10 extra. Nothing magic about the replacement; when disconnecting the cables from the old battery, disconnect the negative first, then the positive. Connect the new battery in the reverse order, positive then negative.”

Also, make sure you have any radio codes that you may need.

No radio codes needed as stated in post #8. Hit enter when asked.
